Lovely hosts, good parking and beer garden

Included breakfast was a basic ceral, yoghurt, croissant and toastl, any cooked was extra. Wasn't a problem due to heat wave as it was all we needed but worth noting you need to add £12 head if full English required. Evening menu a bit limited but once again preferred a cold meal and had a ploughman's which was exceptional

The owners were friendly and pleasant. Tea, coffee and drinking water in the room. Property was on road through village but there was little traffic noise over night, even with one window open. Property is next to the church, we didn't hear any bells chiming until 7 am and they were very quiet chimes. We were concerned when we arrived at 10pm on a Saturday night that there was live music and the world cup match was being televised late into the night. As promised by the owner the music stopped by 10.30 and we couldn't hear noise from the football.

Firstly I appreciate that the Rose and Crown is an old building and space is limited because of the sloping roof. Our bathroom had a sloping ceiling at one side of the toilet, which I hit my head on. There is also limited leg room in front of the toilet. The bed was very low with a soft mattress. I assume a low bed was chosen because of the sloping ceiling, bedroom 1 is in the roof space under the thatch. Windows are small and at floor level, so not easy to open and close. We didn't manage to get hot water out of the shower. We were disappointed with breakfast, only the continental breakfast was included you had to pay extra for anything else. Breakfast consisted of yogurts, 1 croissant per person, three types of cereal, and toast, with butter and a small selection of jams. Tea, coffee orange juice and water. Overall it is historic and quirky, not suitable for anyone with limited mobility.

I do regret not giving feedback to the amiable owner, James, who though I didn't require breakfast on the last morning, kindly offered and I accepted a coffee and warm croissant before driving back 100 miles home. Overall the room was comfortable. Good points. The touch-the-base and immediate illumination of room, the flush-only-when depressed toilet button (very eco friendly) and the modern bathroom mirror with the incorporated demister.

The mattress is too soft. More of a trampoline than mattress. I enjoy a hot shower. The water was scolding, too hot to stand in. I decanted in order to to use effectively.
