Very dramatic and different from standard apartment.
Entrance up shabby staircase. Noise from bar across the street.

If you want to be smack in the centre of the Old Town, there really is no better place to be; it's literally round the corner from the entrance to Diocletian's Palace. The apartment itself is ridiculously OTT - all Italian Renaissance splendour complete with enormous fireplace and its own grand piano, marble floors and art deco statues, but that aside, it's huge with 2 bedroom/bathroom combos and a gigantic (if underused) living area. For a few days pretending to be A-list celebs it's all good fun.
The location means it's noisy. The bedroom windows open directly onto a bar/restaurant opposite, which plays loud dance music until 1.00am and the street below is full of people until the early hours, so light sleepers beware. The kitchen is tiny, no more than an afterthought really, and the decor won't be for everyone.

The apartment is beautiful and historically interesting. The tall ceilings were incredible and gave a very grand impression.
The host was fantastic, available and helpful whenever we needed him. He went out of his way to be accommodating and this helped make the stay more enjoyable for us.
There was easy access in/out of the palace walls, and the central location was easy to get to and from when exploring the laneways within.
The apartment is directly across a very narrow laneway from a busy restaurant and multiple busy bars, so the noise was excessive on 4 of the 5 nights we stayed. Over the weekend there was loud bass, loud talking and on-street partying until nearly 3am and the windows have no soundproofing. The 2nd floor location actually increased the noise levels because it bounced off the rock walls as it travelled upward.
Even after the bars were closed there were incredibly loud groups of partiers walking through past the apartment through the lane each night. This is no fault of the host, but it was not a good location for a family to be staying. We expected noise, but were unlucky as this is the loudest location in the entire palace. These loud street conversations and yelling were worse than the bass.
If my wife and I were visiting Split a few years ago and able to stay out late and eat/drink ourselves then this wouldn't have been as much of an issue for us, but having a baby and being back in the unit by 10pm each night, we were dealing with up to 5 hours of street noise each night.
