Plaistow Barton Barn - The Engine Room

Amazing spacious barn. Great hosts. Fantastic.

We had a great stay at The Engine Room. 4 adults and 4 children/teens. The photos do not do justice to the sheer size of the property. Despite the on off rain the hot tub was very popular and so was the play barn. It was nice to have the snug/playroom inside the property as well but with only 1 play station controller the boys soon lost interest in it as they couldn't play together. The kitchen was huge and very well equipped. The rooms and bathrooms were all clean. For feeling like you were in the middle of no where it was only a 15minute drive into Barnstaple for any supplies. I was very impressed that the Tesco Delivery driver made it to us on the first night in the dark. There was plenty to do locally from seaside towns to National Trust properties. If I came back again then I would love to stay in the summer to make full use of the large outside space.

These are really only very small niggles as we had a great stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the property to family and friends. We arrived in the dark which made it tricky to see the sign for the property where the track divides. Maybe a bigger sign in a more central position would be easier to spot. Maybe an extra light out in the decking/hot tub area. It was great for being able to see the stars from the hot tub but at times we felt a bit more light was needed for moving around the area safely. The other little suggestion is maybe a few more soft furnishings or decorations. Because it is such a large property at times it could be quite echoey with noise. I'm not sure if that would help but it would help to make it feel a little more homely.
