Absolutely stunning part of the hniverse. Ideal for humans. Make sure you get a lake facing room with a balcony and so on as I just stopped off for a nap and just took a sungle room without balcony but the view was spectacular through the window. Unfortunately there was some type of office motivational meeting for a company when I visited so all the name badges gave me Betty Ford flashbacks. It was extremely peaceful though, breakfasting was mediocre, bed was very comfortable and showering and toileting facilities were very good!

Great stay, friendly helpful check in . I was given a better room than booked as it was now with a view . When I booked and paid , I hadn’t noticed it was a shared bathroom and toilet which I’m glad didn’t put me off as the hotel itself is an historical experience with beautiful grounds and its own museum! The aesthetic is Bauhaus which I found to be very atmospheric and evocative. The walk to the free bus service up and down the hill might not be for everyone, especially in the 33 degree heat i had. I saw a complaint on another review about the breakfast!? I found it memorable, tasty and wholesomely filling , eaten on a restaurant terrace with a beautiful view . The restaurant staff were also helpful and pleasant. I would stay again.

The gentleman at the reception as well as the lady at breakfast were so friendly. It was a really special place, with Bauhaus architecture and an interesting history. Even if it took me a lot of effort to hike up to the hotel from the lake, it was totally worth it!

Unfortunately, this special place appears to be losing its soul. Compared with our last stay, the breakfast was very basic and the service only half-hearted. Worst of all, upon check-out the receptionist deliberately and pejoratively called me "Natasha", which felt as treating me with contempt as a guest. This was very embarassing and unprofessional, and discourages me from visiting this hotel ever again.

Very nice location. You feel like in a little resort. The rooms looks like an hospital room. Only white with convenience bed. But everything was clean. We have an amazing view on the lake from the balcony.

Nice and quiet place to stay and explore. The location is best to view the beautiful town and lake below. Lots of hiking trails besides the long winding road to and fro Ascona. WiFi is not readily available and tugging suitcase over the cobblestone is a challenge. Breakfast is great.

Great hotel, neat and friendly personnel. The garden is great to wander around and offers some great views of the lake. Getting to the hotel by bus is a bit hard. You'll have to walk up the hill. Also the rooms are not really soundproof, but since all people seemed to sleep in early this wasn't a big issue for me.

very nice hotel, a car is highly recommended as the hotel is up a steep hill, gorgeous view on Lago Maggiore, breakfast is served on a beautiful terrace, nice breakfast buffet, the lake area (Switzerland and Italy) can be easily explored when staying at the hotel, Locarno is within walking distance, some might prefer a taxi for returning to the hotel

Fantastic room with views and elevation - quite warm in July 15-17 2015 to 35C without aircon and mosquitoes makes nights very warm- kept windows open and mosquitoes etc - less sleep. Great breakfast on top terrace. Admin staff and all just lovely. Will return.

This is the first time I have used hotels.com and the write-up was not representative of the hotel. This is a three star hotel and the rooms I was first given were like a youth hostel room, one did not even have a window to look out of. I was moved to a better room after complaining and showing the staff the photographs on the hotels.com website. I still did not get a room as per the pictures.
