We loved meeting the owner and hearing about the history of Bowlish House. Their passion for it is clear from the care with which it is furnished and styled, in keeping with the house’s age and history. It felt personal and homely and was filled with lovely touches that made us feel welcome & comfortable. Maryanne had thought of everything we might need and is an excellent, thoughtful and friendly host. We’ll be back!

The host was so welcoming and attentive and went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. She advised us a great pub to eat locally and even booked our table for us. Bowlish House feels full of history and is styled with unique and charming decor touches. We all loved our stay

Bowlish House and Maryanne are a super combination for a great stay. Bowlish House is so full of character, great hallway entrance, beautiful gardens and our breakfast was served in a wonderful room in front of a fire and Maryanne produces the most indulgent but healthy breakfast you could wish for, with home made juices, fresh fruits, pastries, eggs, avocado, toast, yoghurt, granola and more. Our room was a delightful ensuite with lots of extra touches that made it special, including cotton dressing gowns, slippers and a full range of hot drinks and a properly stocked ensuite too. With free parking and close to Shepton Mallet town centre, it is perfectly located too. Thank you Maryanne and look forward to next time!

A kind and friendly hostess, a very characterful Georgian building, an excellent breakfast. This worked perfectly as a base for exploring the area - Glastonbury, Wells and Cheddar Gorge.
All was good.

Breaky was fine
Very disappointed that the room was not made up ,and had to ask for it to be done.Maryanne said we aren't a hotel but a B nB, which was very crass as it is billed as a Hotel on booking .com
If it was a BnB then it was way too expensive

Maryanne was an excellent host, so friendly, welcoming and accommodating; the decor and furnishings are tasteful, the bed comfy, and lots of attention to detail (fresh milk and oat milk available in a fridge at reception; bowl of mints ditto; selection of teas and coffee-making facilities in the room, with pretty cups…); and the breakfasts were superb! A wonderful range of fresh fruits (including figs, passion fruit, cantaloupe melon), yoghurts, dried fruit, etc and selection of bread/pain au chocolat …. And Maryanne even laid all this out especially early for us on our last day as we had to leave by 8! Oh, and Myrtle the dachshund!
The creaky floorboards in the bedroom? But all part of the charm!

A masterclass in mid century hotel kitsch. A Georgian mansion house where every room is packed with quirky items and personal touches. The hosts are welcoming and quick to rerspond to requests for help or advice. The two huge drawing rooms are available for guests all day and tea and coffee is endless. Just help yourself! This invitaion extends to the bar. Make a note of what you take and pay later. An orangery is a bright welcoming space for complimentary breakfast. The gardens are well equipped for an afternoon's relaxing.
If you like Travelodges and Premier Inns Bowlish House is not for you. Corporate it is not. There is a surprise round every corner. You are part of the family, not part of the herd.

This is a really great place. It is a beautiful building, furnished with imagination and character, with a really lovely garden. The whole place has a bohemian charm, wrapped up in Georgian splendour. But it is the people that make it so special. Maryanne is the consummate hostess - attentive yet discreet, friendly and professional, and brimming with enthusiasm. Nothing was too much trouble. The breakfasts were lovely and the details everywhere were fantastic. Bowlish House will not disappoint.
We loved everything about it.

This is an incredible venue, with an incredible, charming, friendly host. Thank you Maryanne for everything - you exceeded our expectations and made our Glasto weekend simply, perfect. Your house is stunning, extremely clean, very comfortable, full of character and full to the brim of those little details which can only put a smile on your face. Everything about our 3 nights stay at Bowlish House was perfect, from the moment we arrived until departure - we didn't want to leave!! Your breakfast was also incredible and more than perfect to set us up for a great day ahead, including the bottle of pink fizz which was always on ice and the wonderful company (other guests) around the breakfast table. The gardens of Bowlish are gorgeous, with potted flowers everywhere (big thanks to your dad!), the beds were amazingly comfy, the showers super hot. I could note rate this accommodation high enough and will probably never find anywhere like it again. My family and I will 100% be back. You are a super special host and should be very proud of yourself. Thank you for everything, we will see you again soon :)
There was absolutely nothing I didn't like or enjoy. Bowlish House is one in a million.

The House is a beautiful old estate that has all the old charm and everything that goes with it. Beautiful features and architecturally original details that add to the charm. The best feature was the warm, attentive and lovely staff. They make you feel like home. Breakfast was a beautiful spread and we felt welcomed from the minute we drove into the property.
Floor boards are original so were creaky and loud, but again every this added to the charm. The House is very old so is not state of the art, but again adds to the charm

Our hosts Patrick and Theresa were absolutely brilliant. Friendly and so helpful, even preparing a supper for my wife when we were late home one evening! The house is a maze of rooms all very quirky and the garden is beautiful. Parking is plentiful and secure off road and you are perfectly placed to explore ghe local area.
I think the kitchen is being renovated so a cooked breakfast is not available at the moment but tbh the variety of continental style food on offer more than compensates and Theresa is more than happy to offer more even including homemade smoothies!
