Lunch and evening menus

The room was very nice and the bed very comfortable. The bathroom was very tired with yhe finish on taps etc flaking off and looking grubby. The building is beautiful and the location is lovely. Everything else is beyond disappointing.

The staff all behave as if staying customers are a real inconvenience. They do not accommodate dietary requirements although they tell you on booking they will. Further, breakfast is a disaster. We had to wait over an hour for our food and the hotel was far from full. They ran out of sausages right at the start of service. They made no adjustments for those with mobility issues. In fact they actually put them in the most inaccessible room they had. They do not have any disabled parking spaces so you cannot get a wheelchair of the car either.

Suite - that heating / cooling did not work, could not even get TV to work, response was really lack lustre "new remote due tomorrow for heating" " TVs never done that before" and ' well see about changing the room" but never came back - - raised concerns again in the morning and respinse was no more than a " Oh thats a shame"

I liked the English country house vibe., full of character and nice grounds. Our room was spacious with a modern bathroom, and had private access to the spa via a private terrace. All the staff were amazing, nothing too much trouble. Each member of the team was friendly and happy to help. The spa was small but had everything I needed to relax. The English breakfast was included in the room price, a nice treat and well cooked. All the meals including the English tea with scones etc were beautifully presented and delicious.

The hotel (apart from the spa area) is in desperate need of a facelift. It is not shabby chic more like tatty fit for the heap! I passed a room marked private along the main corridor every day and the door was black with dirty marks. Some white paint to freshen it up would help and not take time or cost too much. For me the hotel has the potential to be a great place to stay, just a lick of paint and review some of the past-it, furniture and decor. I was not happy to find that there is an extra service charge in addition to the price shown on the menu for drinks and food.

The spa facilities were great

The previously unmentioned xtra charges, including an extra fifty pounds deposit for the room, fifty pounds to bring a small dog, and twenty five pounds deposit for the dog alone. This is on top of paying for the room, which was over priced in my opinion. Also an unauthorised transaction took place by the staff of two hundred pounds without permission. I was so distressed trying to get answers it ruined my stay. I couldn't afford to lose that money. An apparent refund was verbally promised, on a future unknown date , would be returned. Yet they refused to provide me with written confirmation or a receipt to show what money they owed. I was told I had to wait all morning to check out , (alone by this point) I waited, upset, all morning, as I didn't want to leave without my deposits and the two hundred pounds ,they said was mistakenly taken. Eventually after so much time , I was too upset to try to get a straight honest answer any longer and, I was forced to leave the hotel 275 pounds short. Money I did not owe or agree to be taken. This felt highly unprofessional and illegal.and fraudulent. With no member of staff available to assist with a written receipt , or to help me resolve this. I left with no answers, no apology no receipt and no refund. The staff talked in circles , and the member of staff who made the transaction avoided answers or remained silent. This continued for so long it exhausted me. How could this one night at this one hotel, have cause me so much upset ? The worst experience, I've had at any hotel, over many years of hotel experiences. This awful one night stay , was so distressing it defeated the whole object of treating a friend to a much needed relaxing spa day. We were devastated for days

The decor, spa facilities and grounds are all lovely and the food was excellent.

Our room experience was poor. There was a broken lamp which I had to report and one of the window latches was snapped off so we couldn’t close it. And the last guest had clearly smoked in our room which was really unpleasant and when I reported it, while they apologised, there was no offer of any form of recompense. I had to ask for a free drink at the very least! And overall the service was lacking.

We like the location of the property and it looked very nice-from the outside

At the top of the list of this overall very negative experience was that the plumbing in the bathroom would make loud high pitched noises, it seemed when other rooms in the hotel opened their taps, so these noises were frequent, went on in to the night and started again very early in the morning, making it impossible for either myself or my partner to get a good nights sleep. When raised with the manager the next morning, he assured up it would be fixed by the time we got back in the evening ( along with fixing the shower head holder which had fallen off the wall and the mirror which also was by the side of the sink at waist height so unusable unless crouching down, and the water in the mixer shower tap alternating between cold and scalding hot) we returned back at about 9pm, the noise from the pipes had not been fixed, it was as bad as the first night, so disturbed sleep again. The mirror had been hung above the sink but the shower head holder had not been reattached and the issue with the alternating water temperature has about been addressed Once again we spoke to the manager in the morning who said the plumber had been and resolved the house from the pipes as best he could, that the shower head holder had been like that since he had been manager, nothing was said by the manager about the water temperature, but as we were in the heritage part of the building these were issues that were commonplace and to be expected. Raised the complaint with booking.com and after supplying videos of the noise and other issues and 3 weeks of “following up” with them we have been issued with a £51 credit to our account while the 2 night booking was for £360 If I could give zero stars for this poorly maintained, badly managed hotel I would. Also will not be using Booking.com again

Location great. Grounds excellent.

In need of investment. Rooms poor standard for a 4* hotel. . Rooms dusty and poor lighting. Bathrooms dated and tiles cracked. Restaurant slow, food Luke warm for evening meal. 50mins for service. Nobody came for follow-up dessert was not offered so gave up. Over priced. Breakfast was just as bad. 30 mins waiting. They ran out of vegetarian sausages on the vegetarian breakfast. Then tried to overcharge me by £109.00. Generally poor which is a shame as this could be a great hotel under the right ownership.

Beautiful grounds and property

There was a wedding on and due to this hardly no beer, no bottles in fridge and only one draughty beer due to other run out, guy on front desk was welcoming

Too expensive for the facilities provided. Also, dinner too expensive. No signal to use phone or GPS We were charged £50 as a deposit for our stay, but we did not get it back.

A traditional country house with some original features, very spacious bedroom and pleasant grounds

In need of maintenance, however, it's clear that recent small upgrades are not in keeping with this building, more of a modern Asian style. Hopefully, it won't be completely ruined over the next few years. Young staff members seem to choose the background music that's so loud it spoils the ambience, even permeating outside into the gardens Restaurant is brightly lit, in a modern conservatory totally out of character and overpriced for a very average meal, a curry and a bowl of soup is £42 ! Car park is too small for users, which includes many non residents.

Hotel has been refurbished very nicely. My room was big and airy, nice bathroom.

After paying over £200 a night, I found it rather cheap and shabby to be asked to pay £4.20 plus service for a latte with my breakfast. I only had a croissant for breakfast but was tempted to order the full cooked breakfast and then not even eat it as a protest about being charged for the latte (i didn't though !)

The room was like a suite on two floors. I wish we had longer to stay there.

Great food however would have preferred the bar menu for longer as well as restaurant. Great location and good massage/spa.

Sadly it was the hottest weekend of the year and on the second floor! Heat rises so minimal air impacted on sleep despite windows open and fan on. Struggled up two floors with bags. Shower bit strange with operations and eventually managed to get a hot shower. Would stay again and would recommend though.

Food and wine was lovely, spa facilities were good and the hotel grounds were lovely too.

The shower was a bit old fashioned, it dripped and there was a spotlight that had stopped working in the bathroom, which meant it wasn't as bright as it could have been.

Having read some poor reviews I was a little unsure what to expect. From the first communication with the Hotel about my room requirements to the time we checked out at the hotel, everyone and everything was excellent. Natasha has been very helpful and friendly and when there was an issue to be resolved, it was dealt with quickly and professionally. The food in the restaurant was superb, Spa facilities very relaxing, over all a very enjoyable stay. Every staff member we met was friendly and polite. Oh, and I slept well .. I'm a light sleeper at the best of times, beds and bedding are really comfortable.

Can't think of anything negative about our stay

The room was great and the location of the hotel was perfect for our needs. It was extremely useful to have an on-site ev charger too. The staff were all very friendly, polite and helpful.

Room 14 was not very clean and not fully stocked with towels and glasses. Rotting wood around the bath and door to outside, dirty carpet and one lightbulb not working made it feel uncared for compare to other parts of the hotel. All outside areas needed weeding!

Pictures on booking.com did not match the rooms selected. I got told sorry some of the pictures don’t match up.

Excellent hotel lovely grounds staff friendly and helpful. Spa also adds to the experience. Food incredible, would return if in the area.

Superb room, fantastic food, friendly staff and lovely additional touches for our wedding anniversary. Very relaxing stay.

Rooms were very comfortable ..loved the bath in both rooms and enjoyed the provided toiletries .. one of my favourite brands Bending the rules to allow the dog to join the family reunion was great and made the evening.

Although the staff were very helpful and available a lift for taking all the large luggage upstairs would have been welcomed.allowing the 5 year old to eat food quietly delivered with the grown ups in the dining room would have been appreciated.
