The North Apartment

The location of the apartment was amazing, the host was so lovely and helpful with checking in, checking out and recommendations for the area. The apartment was quiet, clean and spacious - there was a table and a couch which was great for being able to work from the apartment. Wifi worked well.

The main issue was the toilet location - it is outside of the apt on a shared floor. It's a private bathroom but it was a little inconvenient/uncomfortable to have to exit the apartment and use keys to enter the separate bathroom, especially late at night or early morning. We got used to it but worth noting if you get up a lot at night or want a bit more privacy. Shower and sink are in the apartment which was nice. Also, I almost rarely saw anyone else on the floor.

Ljubljana was great, lots of very attractive buildings, nice character, friendly people, lots of green spaces and woodlands within easy walking distance. The apartment was very pleasant, located in an old building of great character, and overlooked a private courtyard so was quiet. Location in the old town was great. Instructions for gaining access (self check-in) were very clear.

The WC was in the corridor, not inside the apartment, and getting access to it took some time to sort out. First we realised there was no WC in the bathroom. Then we decided it must be in the little room in the corridor outside. There were 2 keys on the keyring from the keysafe, but neither fitted the lock on the toilet door. Eventually we found the toilet key hanging on the wall in the entrance to the apartment. It then took some fiddling to work out how the lock worked - one keyturn just set up a latched limited opening (bit like a bolt-chain on a door), and it took 2 full keyturns to open the lock, and to close it when inside, or after use. Going to the toilet during the night was a particular pain! We contacted the owner/agent about the WC access and her response was that it was clearly stated in the description on Booking.com. We checked and it wasn't - the only mention of this was in several reviews where guests had been surprised to find the toilet was not in the apartment. A clear description of how the WC arrangements worked, like that for gaining access, would have been very helpful. We also contacted the owner/agent about the cooker hob. This had two electric rings and two gas rings. The electric rings worked fine but we couldn't get the gas rings to work (we use gas at home). Her response was that it must be fine because someone had stayed in the apartment the previous day!! Overall the owner/agent was defensive rather than helpful. We took the train to Lake Bled (Lesce-Bled, then a 4km walk or bus ride). Although undoubtedly beautiful it was so touristified that we felt it wasn't worth the effort.
