Adare -4x4 Recommended

We had a beautiful Stay at Adare. The house is located in a stunning part of Underberg, with immaculate views and amenities. Super close to Bushman's Nek , and a short drive to Silver Streams and the Lesotho border ( There is a stunning waterfall here , just to the left as you cross the entrance to border control- A must see ) . Only accessible with a 4 x 4. Which was perfect for us. Really made it an adventure, especially after some rain. The house is well appointed, with plenty of daily stocked firewood by the lovely Elliot, for the indoor and outdoor fire. (We went in winter-July, and this was a HUGE bonus). The home is rustic chic but charming and well appointed. Particularly the kitchen. Which is always a bonus. Plenty of everything you need crockery and cutlery wise, and gadgets too. We loved the view-point to the back of the property, which was perfect for sunrises and sunsets, and really loved the easily accessible walks down to the lake and river ( There is a kayak too !!). It is the most peaceful place I have ever been too. No TV, no Signal within the house (Stand in the main bedroom against the large window, or head to the wood chopping area/view point if you need to communicate), and no hustle and bustle. There is a large generator for any power outages. Luckily we only had one, which was brief. There are picnic bags, and board games for entertainment and a well-stocked little library, for the slower days/evenings. Any questions we had were quickly answered. (Make sure you are well stocked on food and supplies, as the nearest shop is quite a drive). We will for sure be back, for a rest and reset at the beautiful Adare.

I do think people should be informed of the lack of signal, simply in the case of an emergency, and where they can go to find it, should they need it.

the gravel - road, 4x4 to be recommended or tar the road no security response - there should be a quick response test and satisfaction in case of emergency. no essential services nearby - general supplier for food and drinks

Peacefulness

The location is very scenic and remote. The cottage is clean and very well equipped with all the needs catered to.

Through out the stay, there were several disruptions to our privacy with bakkies and people coming in and out, unwanted noise due to the ongoing works at the Jetty barely 10 meters from the cottage making it very frustrating to just sit on the porch and take in the views, sleep in a bit or enjoy a quiet nap in the afternoon. When we complained about this, the lady in charge wasn't the most empathic and didnt apologize once for the inconvenience caused. She just stated that this was a working farm and intrusions were limited to 3-5pm which certainly wasn't the case in our experience. The directions to the property are not precise. There is no turn off to the property at 14 km as specified. It is at least 3 more kms further up. There is no phone signal up there so the directions need to be more spot on. We drove around for a bit trying to locate the property which was a tad frustrating and could have been avoided.
