Lovely cottage. Would book again.
I couldn't get the hot water in the shower to work this morning before we checked out which was a bit of a shame. I tried both taps but it was only cold water.

Queens Cottage is a delightful quirky cottage which is full of tasteful and fun things which are relevant to the name of the property. Well equipped and helpful Host on hand to give immediate support when things don’t go quite right.
The stairs - for us - were a bit of a challenge!

The cottage was spotless and very comfortable. They had provided everything you needed for a lovely stay. I want to especially mention the decor. The place is beautifully decorated, with exceptional attention to detail. You can tell the owner has a great eye for design. The chocolates were a lovely touch, as was the bottle of drink. I would highly recommend it for people visiting the area and would definitely stay again.
There wasn't anything I could fault. The only point, I would make and it's not a complaint or criticism, is that for anyone with mobility issues they may struggle to cope. There are a lot of steps and stairs in the cottage. The stairs leading to the bedrooms, are each very high - luckily the banister does provide support.

The beds were really really comfortable, as we're the sofas/chairs etc. The decor was quirky and fun - talk about leaning into the name of the cottage! All sorts of queens, from ERII to The Sex Pistols! It was ideally situated for the Wivenhoe Regatta - not so close that you have to deal with all the noise, cooking smells or people, but an easy walk to get to it.
The little patio with comfy seats was very much appreciated in the heat! It was nice to sit outside late evening just enjoying the breeze.
The cottage has great facilities, and everything is done to a high standard, within the quirky theme. The bedrooms were a good size, as was the kitchen. It was lovely to find a pint of milk in the fridge along with some Cava (thank you!), as everyone needs a cuppa on arrival. That was very thoughtful indeed.
The stairs were REALLY steep. I had to go up them on all fours, and come down on my bottom because I've had a stroke and am not particularly steady on my feet. My husband was fine with them, but my 70yo asthmatic mum struggled by the end of the day.
Parking was a bit of a worry. In the information folder it says you can park outside the house, but there is a sign saying permit holders only. To play it on the safe side, we just parked on the gravel road round the corner.
If you struggle with mobility issues, this is not the cottage for you, but for all able bodied people, I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Lovely little cottage, immaculately clean and beautifully decorated. Had everything we needed and in perfect location for our stay visiting family. Added bonus that the dogs were welcomed as well.
Highly recommend

The house was clean and extremely well equipped. The communication to gain access were clear and accurate. It was a good base for the majority of us to visit family in Wivenhoe
The bathroom is downstairs off the kitchen plus the stairs up to the bedrooms are very steep and deep. That and the lack of adequate hand rails to the small landing outside the bedrooms, making it difficult for guests with restricted mobility. A fact that if I had known at the time of booking would have influenced my choice of property.

This is a great place to stay with everything you need in one place. It had towels, shampoo, shower gel and all the home from home stuff, which we really appreciated because we just moved back to the UK from America that morning and didn’t have any of that stuff yet. It had tea & coffee and the owner even put a bottle of milk in the fridge for us, which was a nice and greatly appreciated touch. It was just a 5 minute walk into the centre of town so it was a great place to stay and was also in a safe place so it was perfect to take the dogs for a walk before we set off again.

The cottage was easy to find- the light that came on over the door was a great help- and it was really well equipped- including lots of little extra hospitable touches. It felt luxurious with a strong regal theme throughout! The bed was very comfy. We loved the little gas stove in the lounge. We had no problem parking on the road close to the cottage. The communication with the hosts was clear and helpful.
The bathroom is downstairs and was a bit chilly (we did stay in December). We couldn't get the additional radiator in the bathroom (above the toilet) to work- that might have helped. Similarly, we were just about warm enough in the lounge with the gas stove on. We couldn't seem to change the thermostat. We only stayed two nights and if we had stayed longer, we would have contacted the hosts to check how the heating/thermostat worked. We are mainly flagging so they can maybe provide better instructions in the welcome pack. The stairs are very steep especially in the night!

The cottage was beautifully decorated with comfortable furnishings.
Would have preferred a small garden with grass instead of a yard.
