I didn't expect to carry all my luggage to the top floor of the house. It was hard work when there is no staff to help and no lift.
staff to help with bags

Very good location with parking for trip
Couldn’t turn rads off, was too hot

It was a beautiful place and our suite was very clean, tidy and tasteful. It was a lovely large room and very comfy.
No real dislikes so this is quite hard as it was a great place but the kitchen had only two bowls and spoons so maybe another set could be added? Can’t really think of anything else.

The room and hotel itself were gorgeous. Comfy bed too
The room was 27degrees on arrival and the air con unit was very temperamental. I had to ring a couple of times to ask for the heating to be turned off. Was assured it was off and they could remotely turn the air con on but the room still sat at about 25degrees the whole stay. Being uncomfortabley hot even with windows open. I stayed 4 nights and my room wasn't cleaned and towels / coffee / cups were not replenished until I rang on day 3 to request this. There was no staff present as it was an electronic check in service. Which I dont mind but it would have been nice to have someone around at least. Also phoneline went off at 7pm so if there had been a problem/ emergency no one would havs been informed until the next morning.

This hotel was a new concept for us. There is no physical presence of staff as far as I can tell and check in is by a console at the door. This was a little more complicated than I anticipated because you need two numbers to confirm reservation... the personal code messaged to me on the Booking.com confirmation AND the longer booking code which was emailed. However, the room was excellent and the location was perfect. The building is handsome and well placed to access Abingdon centre. There is NO restaurant or bar on site... but it is a very short walk to number of very good cafes. Abingdon town centre seems to have embraced cafe culture in spades. Walk out immediately behind the hotel and you are in the Abbey Gardens and then out past the superb children's playground and into the watermeadows along the banks of The Thames where you can do a charming circular walk via the river crossing at Abingdon lock.
The lack of welcoming staff made the experience of staying at the hotel rather colder than I would have anticipated. But, to be fair, we were there to have a room for the night and the customer service on-line was excellent, even though it was remote. We left clothing in our room and this was retrieved and the team was in touch with us very quickly and efficiently to arrange how we could collect it.

The location is great, and the building and rooms are beautifully decorated. We didn't see any staff, but they were very helpful when I called (at 11pm!) and sorted my issue quickly.
I do wish there was more shelf space in the bathroom - there was not enough space for my toiletries.

Could not recommend this place enough. The Superior Suite is stunning, spacious and tastefully decorated, with everything you could need. Quality furnishings, we didn’t want to leave.
The building is stunning, with many of the original features having been retained.
Ample parking, perfect location to explore Abingdon. Modern check in with an easy to use machine at the entrance.
Nothing.

Everything, modern, spotless, central
Could do with topping up the coffee and milk in the room daily, or having some in the lobby you can pick up
7.0 / 10.0
Great sized room and nice to have a little kitchenette. Was quiet also.
We really liked how it was designed and colours used.
When we walked in there was a tea/coffee stain on the sink draining area, the shower was slightly blocked and the lights from the street (our room was at the front but appreciate external lights can’t be helped but could put a pelmet on the curtain)
Also we didn’t like the single bed for our daughter was right next to the radiator.
Could be useful to have a folder in the room with local eateries/suggestions.

Amazing area, hotel was to an amazing standard as well
Staff were friendly when seen.
Bed could have been a little bit comfier
Also the shower is unfortunely not great for tall people, the rain shower head sits at around my chin level, so showering was a bit difficult

Lack of instructions for oven and TV. Had to send email, but they did reply quickly
A larger kitchen bin or spare bin bags would have been useful.

The location is perfect for exploring Abingdon. The room was very comfortable and we were able to cook a few meals in, thanks to the hob and the kitchen amenities.

The position is excellent
Room 27 is very limited in height, especially at one side of the double bed.

Great location in centre of Abingdon with free parking. Easy to use self check in. Loved the building and the room was clean and bed comfortable.
Unfortunately there was a low electric hum almost constantly throughout the night which meant a restless sleep. The room was also very hot and no instructions on how to work the heating/thermostat.

Great location, free parking, nicely decorated room in a beautiful building. There was a night porter and staff available on message to ask questions. Check in/out was a breeze.
The room was quite warm but there’s air con which cooled it down nicely.

Gorgeous character building in a lovely location by the old Abbey ruins. It is surrounded by the Abbey gardens, with ancient trees and abundant bird life. The area is so quiet despite being in the town center.
We loved the novelty of using the machine to create our own room cards. Everything was well explained and the fact that there was no manned reception didn't detract.
The room was spacious and beautifully decorated, with an extremely comfortable queen size bed. We didn't have breakfast, but instead visited the cafes in the market square where you can get excellent coffee and choice of food.
We could park our rental car right outside with no extra charge.

Good large room. Comfy beds and everything very clean and modern.
Poor parking facilities which made it difficult sometimes and boiling room with just a rotating fan.

Excellent communication, excellent location and really very nice throughout. Parking was also excellent and the entry/access was seemless.
Nothing.

Lovely building and recently re fitted interior, very well done, keeping the traditional features. Large and comfortable room, large and comfortable bed. Very central in the lovely historic town of Abingdon.
Maybe the staff could wear a branded polo shirt, a gentleman who met us at the door but we thought he was another guest for a while. The windows would not stay closed, the old sash windows kept springing up a little.
8.0 / 10.0
Location was central and parking was plentiful. Check-in communication was good. Room was comfortable and tastefully decorated. Gentleman on night-duty was friendly and helpful.
Lack of personal interaction (check-in via console; no staff to be seen in morning or afternoon, so unable to pass on feedback or thanks). Room up and then down flights of stairs; problematic if carrying luggage. Hotel lacking communal spaces (lounge, bar, etc.), and no information available in room, so lacking a personal touch.

Clean, quiet and nicely appointed, with extremely accommodating staff, which we appreciated very much after a long journey.

Fairly spacious room (but disproportionately small bathroom), clean, comfy bed.
Excellent location.
Lovely sound of church bells on Sunday morning.
So many steps up and down inside the hotel!
Completely unmanned from arrival to departure - not 24-hour reception (unless you count the machine) as stated. Only a very basic welcome book in the room.
No way to request extras (eg only 1 teabag provided, which is very mean as there's no food/drink on site) or ask about local attractions (as stated).
Limited parking on site (once in the room, there's a note directing you to a car park if you're not lucky enough to get a space on site).
No instructions for dual head shower - cold shock trying to find out which way to turn the knobs.
Very loud doors banging (can't stop the fire doors slamming).
No iron - expected in any mid-range hotel.
Overall, the basics are missing and the room didn't feel 'superior'.

Location
Didn’t feel it represented particularly good value for a standard double room. All very new and clean, but the price seems high for a simple hotel in Abingdon, given it has absolutely no onsite facilities.

the location was perfect for my needs
very short walk into town for dinner on Saturday night
the place was clean and quiet
the only downside was that the room was excessively hot, even with the air con up it remained close to 30 degrees
a minor consideration for me but i would imagine others would find it unbearable

Good location, clean, comfy bed
Couldn’t fit in the car park, window jammed open and had a broken lock on arrival- they knew about it when we called but hadn’t taken steps to fix it before we got there. (They did send night porter in to assist after we contacted them.) Very large bedroom with disproportionately small bathroom and kitchen area. Mismatched furniture styles. Slightly disappointing as we had higher expectations given the marketing.

We know Abingdon well as we used to live there. The locations is excellent for local amenities and bus connections. The building though very well converted lacked the basic need for a small fridge as many people like to store maybe fresh fruit, milk, wine etc during a stay but this was not available to us. As the room was described as a ‘deluxe double’ we were surprised and disappointed that this wasn’t available.
The bed was very comfortable, the kettle and mugs were of excellent quality, the standard of fittings in the bathroom, towels and shower gels etc was also good.
The property has been converted extremely well from it’s previous function of the council offices and rent office. We didn’t realise when we booked that the room would be on the 2nd floor at the top of the house. Unfortunately there is no lift, and as my husband has COPD as well some mobility problems this was quite hard. Sadly in spite of the excellent decor and nice finishes the lack of a fridge was very disappointing.

The location was perfection
Two things,
I know it was extreme weather but when you pay £169 a room that gives you no breakfast you expect Air Con.
It does have a temperature gauge which gives you the impression it has Air Con, I spent an hour trying to get this to work then a phone call who said “You have a fan” which was useless.
Totally unacceptable!
Secondly I booked the Garden Suite, it doesn’t say it is a thoroughfare for all and sundry! We was in the room from 1600-1800 to get changed, we had 18 people walk straight past our window, this was in an upgraded room.
With the weather so hot, no air con, the windows were open, we had no privacy at all.

Lovely building, very central location in historic area of town. Had room 27 in the eves. Very clean, nice decor.
Room 27 should be sold as a single only. The bed is too small for a couple and with the roof eves coming low it's really impractical for two people. Self check in and no breakfast feels very impersonal which is a shame.

No staff. Whist the self service check was easy. It’s always nice to see a friendly face.

No staff and other than a tea / coffee tray no facilities
