Trying to sell tours instead of serving guests. Didn’t even get my breakfast:

From the moment my driver dropped me off in Ha Giang at An’s House, I completely fell in love with the place. It was everything I had hoped and dreamed for — beautiful rice terraces, mountains disappearing into the mist, friendly people, and a true home away from home. An’s mom and I immediately started chatting through Google Translate. Even though my Vietnamese isn’t good and her English isn’t either, somehow we understood each other perfectly and could have full conversations. That warmth and kindness made me feel welcome from the very beginning. On my first day, I simply went walking and exploring by myself through the village and surrounding areas. Everyone was so friendly, and I had such a wonderful time just soaking everything in. That evening I had my first home-cooked meal there, and the next morning An’s mom came and sat with me on the little patio overlooking the rice terraces while we chatted about life and the devastating floods from the previous year. Seeing the photos afterwards, I honestly could not believe how beautifully they had restored the house in just a year after everything they went through. Their strength and resilience stayed with me deeply. In a strange way, after returning home to South Africa and facing floods myself, I often found myself thinking back to An’s House and reminding myself that if they could rebuild and move forward with such warmth and positivity, then we can too. Everything about my stay felt personal and genuine. I had my own little room and bathroom, felt completely at peace there, and took countless photos because every view looked like something out of a dream. The locals in the village were incredibly kind, and I loved being able to simply walk around, greet people, and experience everyday life in Ha Giang. If you are looking for a homestay experience rather than a hotel — somewhere you can truly connect with the people and culture of Ha Giang — then this is the perfect place to stay.

Nothing

The room: it looks like in the photo, pretty and with a nice view of the outside. The staff: kind, helpful and smiling.

The room: it has very thin walls and therefore in addition to being cold you can hear the noises coming from the other rooms. The bathroom: there is no real window but only a slit on the outside and therefore it is very cold, especially in the morning. The location: not convenient for the center of Ha Giang. The services: breakfast only includes rice and eggs, accompanied by tea. The host: polite but serious and cold, a smile even if you pay for it.
