About this villa rental

Let us introduce Skylark Lodge, a 3 storey, 5-bed detached home with spectacular views over Howells Mere Lake, set in a nature reserve within 500 acres of Cotswold countryside. Three outdoor terrace areas offer stunning views from all vantage points. The home has a large ground floor deck with private hot tub, and two further substantial sized balconies on the 1st & 2nd floors, all of which enjoy the sun for most of the day & well into the evening – culminating with spectacular sunset views

STATED GROUP SIZE: Bookings are accepted on the group size & configuration stated at the time of booking. Any changes to this would require permission. Lower Mill Estate is a gated and warden controlled private estate and we provide the Estate with all guest group sizes and group dynamics prior to arrival, which are confirmed at the time of booking.

DAY VISITORS: Day visitors to the Property may be permitted with our prior consent, at our discretion, provided that the total group (including visitors) does not exceed the maximum occupancy of the Property.

SPA ACCESS: All but a 5 minute walk to the Luxury Spa complex, of which you get full rental access during your stay, allowing you and your family and friends to use the indoor and outdoor swimming pools. Outdoor pools are closed during the low season.

NATURE FIRST: Lower Mill Estate is a nature first environment and we are all guests of nature. As such, things like certain lakes being closed in off season for nesting, low level lighting at night, reeds being left to grow to full height, is part of managing the unique environment and eco system.

PARKING: Each property on the Estate has one designated parking space within a few yards of their front door. All other vehicles can make use of the nearby additional communal visitor spaces and/or the overflow car parks. Please do try and limit the number of cars where possible.

HOT TUB: All of our hot tubs are maintained by a professional pool company, Messrs, MR Pools. Please do not use the hot tub after 10:30pm to retain the peaceful & respectful environment, in accordance with the Code of Conduct.

TRAVEL COT OPTION: We are unable to supply bedding or a mattress thicker than the ‘wrap around base’ that the travel cot comes with. For your reference, the approx. size of a standard travel cot is 60-65cm x 95-100cm.

BBQs: Due to insurance restrictions & potential health & safety compliance issues, we have removed BBQs from each property. Therefore, please remember to pack your own, or alternatively purchase a disposable BBQ for alfresco cooking.

LAKE SAFETY: All outside terrace areas are child proof and have over waist height glass balustrades all the way around, providing a safe environment for children.

The property is well sited and generally well presented despite the fact it is showing its age (approx.25 years). We had an enjoyable time but would had liked patio parasols or awnings to allow use of balconies in the intense sun.The cleaning was generally good with one major exception, the cleaners had not cleaned the shower traps in many months leaving them clogged with hair and scum and hence slow draining (a couple of minutes work I had removed the hair leaving rest for cleaners) I noted a number of other properties on the estate where the cleaners also cleaned outside, de-cobwebbing etc and brushing balconies, which gave a much better first impression. We had to report the smell of gas and where disappointed in the time taken for the property to be checked (I believe this delay was down to LME rather than the rental company) fortunately there was no leak, the problem being with the outside back- draught shutter, of the extractor fan being broken and in certain wind directions taking in exhaust fumes from the boiler flue.The estate is great to explore and has lots to offer, but felt that a lot of for hire equipment was very expensive, taking advantage of a captive audience. Booking slots for swimming pool where being abused making it difficult to book suitable times.

This is a lovely holiday villa with the benefit of three terraces all looking over the small lake at the back of the property. The facilities were great. It was very spacious and we had a thoroughly relaxing stay. Communication with the host was easy, as was access to the property. We enjoyed the hot tub and dining on the top terrace, as well as some paddling on the big lake a few minutes walk from the property. A few small points of improvement, which did not impact us much - access to the lake at the back is a bit tricky, with no jetty and just an overgrown path to the side. Also, some dishes could have been cleaner (probably down to the last guests) and worth sweeping the bottom terrace, particularly on the grassy section before each new guest.

Skylark Lodge met all our expectations and exceeded some. Accommodation on all levels is perfect for large-ish family gatherings like ours. Location on the water's edge is perfect for paddleboarders and kayakers, beginner or expert. My only suggestion for improvement would be an improved launching point - it's currently a bit overgrown and slippery. Overall - a really enjoyable week for all generations.

Property was great, all as expected and in order. Lounge/dining area on top floor-excellent for views , but quite tiring going up and down stairs for access to bedrooms,toilets,hot tub. Booking and communications with owners was excellent.
