Citadel Guest House

Close to the center.

This apartment was chosen as it met our budgetary criteria, included free, on-site, secure parking, and was within walking distance to all sites of interest. We arrived by car. The apartment was located on a one-way road and was easy to locate and navigate. We contacted the guesthouse before arrival via Booking.com and were greeted by a representative who handled check in. Additional communication was prompt and responsive. Later in the stay we met the English speaking host who was very friendly. The guesthouse was located on the third floor of an historic building, reached via stairs. The bottom floors were office space. The room was spacious. The apartment was located within a 10-minute walk of the city center and was in a safe and quiet neighborhood. Would stay again as within our budget and included parking (which appeared would have been difficult to locate within the area/neighborhood).

Compared to other stays on our trip, the furnishings and bedding were dated and the level of cleanliness could have been better. Please note the following comment is only a personal opinion and may not be an issue for all guests: the pillow to bed relationship was not good and we had difficulty sleeping. Different pillow options would probably have solved this issue.

Excellent location to visit the main sites in Varna city including the Cathedral, sea side, shopping areas, parks and restaurants. The main building is historical and generally well maintained, This rental property is on the 3rd floor and consists of 4 separate 'studio' suites. We had 2 of the studios for 5 adults. A double bed in one studio, in the other studio there were 2 singles which were actually bunk beds, and 1 single was a sofa bed. The views from the top were pleasant and privacy is protected. The owner, Pavel is responsive and their colleague, Veneta is very helpful.

One will have to negotiate the stairs three floors with whatever luggage.There is a kitchenette in each, that has basic facilities, but could do with added crockery / cutlery. The bathroom floor seemed to resist getting dry despite our best efforts.

Excellent location - very close to the central beach of Varna and the sea garden. The house was built in 1864 and has a beautiful wooden staircase. Our studio was very spacious, bright and clean. It is also very well equipped with kitchen utensils. There is free parking too. The host is very responsive and efficient.

There is no terrace but this was not a problem in terms of drying beach towels as there was a laundry rack and plenty of space to use it.
