AWFUL - from start to finish.
The bed was ok
Firstly, we totally understand what it’s like to stay in remote locations which of course causes issues with hot water etc. However, the room wasn’t clean when we arrived, there were bug cobwebs and dirt everywhere which attracts more bugs and is easily preventable. The bed had been changed and the floor had been bleached. There’s a 3cm gap under the door, which is where the cockroaches and red ants entered the property everyday. We were woken up to cockroaches and red ants on the floor and bed which is easily preventable if the owner just blocked the gap under the door and used bug spray. This is simple maintenance/thoughtful ownership. A MAJOR health hazard and problem is that the shower/bathroom floor which is not blocked off from the bedroom is constantly wet, due to the AC outlet running into the shower area, instead of outside- which is not legal - creating a damp environment which bugs thrive in. This damp inhumane environment made my partner seriously unwell , and he now has pneumonia. The doctor has confirmed this is almost certainly due to the unhygienic conditions of Casa Choco. Again, I’d like to stress - we are used to staying in similar properties in various countries, all that we ask is a simple level of cleanliness and hygiene which this property hasn’t shown. We’ve never complained about a property before but due to the severity of my partners health and the price we paid feel we felt it was 100% necessary. When contacting the landlord to explain the above they offered us a free clean. Upon returning to the apartment after it had been “cleaned” there are still cobwebs and dirt everywhere, no clean towels, in fact the only towels we had been given, we had to use on the floor to block the 3cm gap with to stop the insects, so were already used and dirty and just been re hung on a chair over our clean clothes.

Amazing. I will be back!
Central location, absolutely beautiful space and the A/C did not disappoint! Highly recommend Casa Choco to anyone planning to visit Mazunte!
Can be a little bit hard to find. There is no sign (or if there was it wasn’t visible). Friendly neighbors helped us find it!

Stunning stay in Mazunte
Lovely place to stay in Mazunte. There is a lovely outdoor area for chilling, the room is spacious, clean and comfy and the air-con is perfect. The location is less than 5 mins walk to the beach and close to all the main restaurants etc. There is a kitchen with the essentials you need to cook. You might also get coupon codes in your room with a % off for The restaurant Granito De Arroz owned by the same person, which I 100% recommend using and trying - we loved this restaurant!

Nice budget place with an AC and great wi-fi
Spacious room with a comfy bed and plenty of storage space. Perfectly clean when we came in. It is not that common to have an AC in Mazunte and we definitely appreciated it! Great wi-fi and a table with chairs in the room as well as on the terrace outside. Little kitchen with some basic equipment and drinking water. Good location near the beach and some restaurants, just 5 min walk to Rinconcito street with all the nicest places. Overall a great budget place with a good location!
These are just details, not deal breakers: There's no one on the site and while someone might prefer the self check-in, we had to wait in the heat without a chance to store our bags and in the end message them to remind them about giving us the password. If you don't have phone data you might have to go get wi-fi at some cafe. Accessible via a scetchy thin staircase so keep that in mind if you have mobility issues or a huge suitcase. I wish they'd put down a towel or a mat on the bathroom floor, it stayed wet and became dirty very quick.

Simple, clean and good bang for your buck !
Only stayed one night. The room was very simple, clean with a comfortable bed and strong AC. There is a lovely terrace outside with a hammock and a table for relaxing. Just a short walk to the beach - maybe less than 10 minutes. I believe there’s a kitchen on the upper floor for shared use, but because I was only staying one night I did not use it.
The property was very difficult to find and I did not receive specific directions about how to find it. It is tucked away behind the main road with no signage anywhere. The taxi driver and I asked a number of locals whether they knew the property, but no one seemed to know of it. Eventually we discovered that the room was located up a very steep, narrow spiral staircase, which was a bit difficult to navigate with a roll away carry on. There was no reception or staff waiting, so I contacted the number on the reservation and was given a key code to enter. I didn’t encounter any people the entire time I was there, which could be a good or bad thing - depending on how you look at it! There was little to no water in the shower, but again this was not a big deal for me as I was only staying one night. Other than this, I would say the room was good bang for your buck, especially considering the extreme temperatures, the region was encountering. The AC was wonderful to have!

Amazing stay in Mazunte
Such a great spot to stay in Mazunte! Room and bathroom were perfect and the shared balcony with hammock is amazing. Also has a simple shared kitchen which was quite handy. Not easy to find somewhere with AC in Mazunte and wouldn’t have slept without it as was so hot.
Often no hot water but wasn’t really an issue.

Exceptional
We had an amazing time at Casa Choco. The owner was so such a nice person and she was always helpful. The apartment was clean. It was close to Bars, Restaurants and close to the beach. We loved being in Mazunte. Best thing of the apartment was the air conditioning. It was always nice to refresh after being outside in the summer heat.
