We loved our stay at the Dorset Arms! A unique inn full of charm and character, fascinating decor with medieval knights in armour, American Indians in full headdress, bronze sculpture lamps, pretty French lampshades and beautiful classical paintings...so much to admire and so unlike the cold, stark, soulless decor of most modern hotels! Rooms and bathrooms were spotlessly clean, warm and cozy, comfortable and well-maintained. Location was in a quiet residential neighbourhood, with easy access to public transport; also close to the end of Hadrians's Wall, in Wallsend.
Newcastle itself is a lovely city to explore, with beautiful architecture, Castle and museums, and a lively Quayside waterfront with views of an amazing number of bridges; also a short drive from the beautiful beach of King Edward’s Bay at Tynemouth with its spectacular Priory ruins of ancient times towering over high craggy cliffs. Lots to explore within easy commutes or driving distances of the inn.
Stan is a superb cook and a wonderful host who loves his guests and it shows ! he goes out of his way to give them a warm welcome, and really ensure they are comfortable. Every morning (we stayed 4 days), his freshly-cooked hearty breakfast was absolutely scrumptious, with a vast variety of everything you could possibly want and more for a copious breakfast, even honey from his own bees! A lovely garden and inviting solarium to relax completes the homey picture.
We had a wonderful stay, but what made it stand out even more is that Stan went out of his way to be helpful, and was very kind to go the extra mile in providing some extremely valuable and useful information, which was truly encouraging and heartening. If we come back to Newcastle, without question we would stay at the Dorset Arms again, and would heartily recommend it to everyone. Thank you Stan, for being such a wonderful host and for a memorable stay! You truly make the Dorset Arms a home away from home!
This isn't Anything to do with the Inn - only a caution that for those taking public transit, just be careful to verify times of last buses and trains when coming back late in the evening or night ; we almost missed the last bus more than once (our own fault )

Absolutely everything was spot on.
Couldn't have asked for a better stay, we have stayed in high end pricey hotels and dorset arms has went above and beyond it. It was warm, spotless, quiet, very lovely and intriguing decor and the owner Stan was an absolute legend. He was very funny, very welcoming, and even offered us a lift to the local gig we had travelled up for. It gave me warm nostalgic vibes of being taken to a gig as a teen by a parent which was really wholesome.
We unfortunately missed breakfast due to too much boozing at the gig but it looked absolutely delicious and we were still offered coffee past breakfast timing. The price was also an absolute steal, we will be back if we go to any more local gigs.
I didn't like that I didn't know about this hotel sooner, id have saved myself a lot of uncomfortable stays in other hotels!
Absolutely nothing to fault.

Upon arrival great parking on site. Warm welcome from the owner Stan who was a great host during our stay. After being allocated our spacious ensuite room Stan asked us what our evening plans were and was kind enough to drive us to Wetherspoons in Wallsend which was about a 5 min drive away. He said that this would familiarise ourself with the area and who assist us when we walked home.
With regatds to the hotel.
The bed in the room was comfy therefore sleep quality was excellent.
Spacious ensuite bathroom.
Great breakfast choices and the cooked breakfast was excellent.
Stan was always available with helpful information about the area. This is a great base to visit Newcastle at a sensible price. Great value for money.
We will be returning next year
The radiator in our ensuite room did not work. This did not spoil our stay.

Location very good, ample parking, convenient for catching buses (very frequent) into the city centre. Stan was very attentive and couldn't do enough for us, offering a lift to wherever we wanted to go. He's also a mine of information about the region.

The breakfast was excellent and freshly cooked. Stan (the owner) was extremely amusing and the young girl waitress was very attentive and polite. We wanted to go to a local pub and Stan promptly took us in his own car at no charge! The room was very clean and well decorated. Bathroom facilities were excellent too.
There was nothing not to like. Parking facilities were good and the location was good.

Really friendly staff, very quiet at night.
The hotel really needs to concentrate more on the upkeep of the property. Windows that don't close properly or lock. Taps that just drizzle water, no real flow, and sink plugs that don't plug the sink so they don't hold water. Stair case hand rail needs securing. The full breakfast was not up to par and mostly cold. It's such a shame as the owner is a really genuine bloke.

Owner very friendly. Very informative about where to go and what to do. Definitely recommend. We only stayed as we had travelled 3 hours to visit a friend in hospital. Hope to come back for a pleasure stay next time. We have recommended you to friends and family who are visiting the hospital too.

Lovely room, comfortable, very clean and super well-equipped: I particularly appreciated the thoughtful and plentiful selection of good quality teas, coffee and hot chocolate. But it's the owner, Stan, who really makes this place special. He's so friendly and helpful, and rustles up an amazing cooked breakfast. He makes his own honey, so you can have fresh home-made honey with your breakfast! A real treat. Highly recommended.
In my room the wifi signal was very weak, but it didn't really bother me as I just connected via my mobile hotspot.

Stan is a brilliant host. He's very service orientated and his breakfast is amazing. There is so much food you will be full for a week when you're done in the morning. If you take the time to sit and yarn with him you will enjoy your time there, but he is not overbearing in any way. This place has a feeling of home, its clean and comfortable and he goes out of his way to accommodate you. Also if you come in late and don't fancy driving the extra 20 mins away to get dinner, there is a Chinese just 5 min walk that has some pretty impressive food.
There is not a lot to worry about. He might need to upgrade the Wifi for the upstairs area but its not a deal breaker.

This is a lovely family run hotel. It’s not modern and clinical like most new hotels so if that’s what your after your in the wrong place. But a quirky, small, hospitable, Welcoming hosts who can’t do enough then this is your place.

We made a late booking for this hotel. We weren't disappointed. It's a beautiful building from the outside. We were greeted by Stan. A lovely man , and were made welcome straight away. Our room was clean, plenty of tea and coffee. Water as well. Shower gel etc in the bathroom. Stan has a very quirky dining room which is a talking point for guests. He also makes a fantastic full English. Well done stan. Your a top bloke. We will defo come back when visiting our son in nearby forrest hall. Alison and Jeff.
The fact we had to leave .
