Excellent location with nice views.
Some things were a little dated and in need of being renewed or refurbished, this let the overall feel of the property down. The general cleanliness was ok but there were areas that definitely needed more attention, for example; there were areas that were very dusty and clearly haven’t been cleaned for some time e.g blinds, corners of rooms, light fittings etc. There were crumbs on the dining chairs and the floors in the dining area. There were 2 lights out in the main bathroom making its use at night difficult. The doors are all on closers but they are not adjusted properly so the doors slam really hard and are therefore dangerous. Not all the doors close properly without needing to be forced.

Really lovely property in the centre of the village. Very well appointed and modern with a sympathetic nod to the history of the house and the area. Beautiful mosaic art on the walls.
Kitchen had all the modern appliances and was a decent enough size.
Beds very comfortable and bathrooms modern and clean.
Location is fabulous a short 2 minute walk to the beach and amongst the small number of shops, pubs and restaurants in the village. Having said that, very quiet at night so the best of all worlds.
All in all we had a great time and would definitely come back here again.
This is a Sykes Cottages property so the communications are computer generated, repetitious and cold. Answers to our questions prior to our visit were not forthcoming until the day before we arrived and were factual and did not go above and beyond at all.
The street parking was ok for us but is probably more difficult in high season. Spaces outside the property are sparse and limited to 2 hours between 9am and 6pm Mon to Sat. There are other spots a few minutes walk away where you can leave your car unlimited time but its first come first serve.
The heating was difficult to control and the instructions in the property didnt help much. The main bedroom door has a fire door auto-closer on it which is a bit annoying.
Whilst not a problem for us, this is an 'upside down' house so living, kitchen and main bedroom is up winding staircase, which may be an issue for some travellers.

Perfect location
- Only 1 key for 5 people
- Radiator valves did not work
- Whole property needed a deep clean and maintenance completed
- Damp and cold downstairs

The location was good. In the centre of the village minutes from the beach but still quiet.
A little bit of maintenance like the blinds in the bedrooms didn't work

The location was excellent right in the centre of Alnmouth.
The property smelled damp and the level of cleanliness was poor. The location was great but to get parked anywhere near was difficult. The front door opened directly onto a small lane. One morning I opened the door to a car going passed if I’d have stepped out I’d have been hit.
I didn’t use the downstairs facilities but I was told the shower was poor and the light didn’t work.
The upstairs bathroom had broken floor tiles . The bath had a shower hose tap fitted but there was no curtain so you couldn’t stand in the bath, not that you’d have wanted to because there was no blind ! The bottom of the bath was pitted with lots of marks. A hole in the bathroom floor was covered with a plank of wood.
I had the upstairs bedroom which smelled fusty. The blind was also broken.
The wardrobe was so narrow you couldn’t hang clothes up and close the doors.
The kitchen was poor , everything was scratched with broken work tops mis matched kitchen doors and gaps in the floor. The sink was so marked it looked dirty.
The living room blind was ripped and the sash window when closed would leave an inch gap on one side.
We only had four people staying which we were just able to seat on the sofa, I wouldn’t have been comfortable at full occupancy.
This property is in desperate need of refurbishment.

Great location
Parking is a problem

Perfect location. All the equipment required and very nicely furnished
Double bed in the downstairs bedroom needs replacing - so not very comfortable. Not a necessity but an upstairs shower would have been beneficial in a 3 bed property.

Clean and comfortable
Sitting area was a bit crowded with the coffee table but otherwise everything was fine

We had a lovely long weekend at Pilot's Rest and could easily have stayed for longer. Great location in the centre of the village, close to the amenities, the beach and the coastal path. It's close to two pubs and a restaurant if you want to eat out but we chose to stay in and cook for two nights as kitchen is really well-equipped and had everything we needed to make a meal for 5 people. The beds are really comfy and the whole place felt warm and welcoming.
Can't think of anything the we didn't like personally. However, it's worth noting that the main living area, kitchen and master bedroom are all upstairs so if you have any mobility issues this is probably not the property for you.

Beautiful location. Lots of lovely shops to visit and beautiful beach walks . Locals extremely welcoming and friendly. Unfortunately this particular property was of an unsatisfactory standard and NOT value for (the not unsubstantiall) price..
Photos of the property look great, but unfortunately they dont reflect the reality!
Flat was cold and felt damp on arrival. ( Paint 'peeling' in downstairs bedroom and 'stains' on kitchen walls.)
Having travelled some distance for a reunion of old friends we decided just 'to get on with it' but it was still cold the following morning
Phoned first thing for assistance (there were no instructions in manual re heating.)
I stayed behind (missing good part of the first morning of our holiday) for a pleasant member of staff to arrive. She said she had remedied the situation and that she had switched on the heating but it didn't come on all weekend. (Fortunately the weather outside improved otherwise we might have just gone home!)
She didn't know what was wrong with the towel rails and said the property maintenance person would call by and sort the problem - but he didn't ever appear and so we had cold, damp towels for the duration of our stay.
Place felt generally unwelcoming.
Minimum number of plates etc; washing up liquid bottle was smaller than the travel size shampoo bottle in my wash bag; only 3 dishwasher tablets; only 1 toilet roll per bathroom (no 'spares); house manual had no up to date information; nothing at all on how to operate oven (timer definitely didn't work); no coffee plunger; towel rails didn't work; no hairdrier (despite having phoned ahead to check and being assured there was one there); shower sealant downstairs 'black'; window blind upstairs didn't work despite fact we noted it had been reported broken by previous visitors; small old faded blood stains on some bed linen......

The location was the highlight for this property.
The tatty decor really let it down, particularly for the price we paid. Every room would benefit from a paint job. The bedrooms downstairs were noticeably cooler, we tried to put the heating on for the children once they were in bed but were unable to get it going.

Alnmouth is a lovely village with beautiful beaches and river views.
We had to clean the washing machine before we could use it. The vacuum was unusable until we cleaned it out. The downstairs smelt damp and was cold. No DVD as advertised. Crockery was chipped and cracked. Fan in the upstairs bathroom didn't work. Damp patches on the walls. I expected better for the money.

Location. Also, the layout of the living area was good.
The ground floor was tatty, cold, and felt damp. The duvet was so thin that I had to wear a fleece in bed. The shower wasn't very clean, and a tile fell off when I closed the shower cubicle door. The first floor space was better,as it seemed to have been re-painted recently. There was no outside light, so it was difficult to operate the key lock after dark. The price was v high for the location (£720 for two nights, not during school holidays), so we'd expected high-end accommodation. We felt completely ripped off.

Location great. Clean and comfortable
Parking difficult! Stairs would be tricky for someone with mobility problems, but there is a downstairs bedroom. Living room/kitchen upstairs.

Wonderful location and great layout and light upstairs particularly. Fab to have two bathrooms. Lovely view. Very comfy.
The downstairs rooms were rather cold.

Very clean and well presented with lots of extra bits like leaflets about places to visit and games. Lovely welcome pack.

Lovely, nicely decorated and furnished property in a great location. Ideal base for touring Northumberland coast. Good selection of pubs and restaurants within easy walking distance.
Not always possible to park car near cottage - could be difficult to find a space in high season.
