After eating your fill, you might want to walk off your lunch with a gentle stroll along the seafront promenade and enjoy breathtaking views over the bay. During the warmer months, its five-mile stretch of sand – sloping gently towards the North Sea – is ideal for the kids and offers plenty of rock pools to investigate. Fancy a change of scenery? The seaside resort of Scarborough lies just a little over seven miles north, with the wilds of the North York Moors National Park beyond that.
