Well thought out layout and good use of space. It was bigger than we expected from the photos. Instant hot water and easy parking Hosts were very good at communicating.

We missed having a microwave.

My visit was much too short as I didn't get opportunity to light the log burner, walk around the village or finish reading the local Caldbeck book of history. I will be back!

A nice location

This place is a rare pearl we have found on Booking.com. A very nice space on 2 floors, in a charming village. The kitchen is well equipped, with a good size sofa and table. At the ground floor a good bathroom with a good size shower, and the bed room. Some books and pictures that witness of the history of the place. They give you willing to learn more about it. Good communication with the owners.

The bed was ok, probably if we would have stayed more nights we would have suffered a bit.

A lovely place for a break

The Old Map Shop surpassed my expectations - what a lovely property. Stayed here whilst walking the Cumbria Way and felt so lucky to have found this place - beautifully refurbished. It was very close to have dinner at the fabulous Muddy Duck cafe and buy fresh milk from the local vending machine. Caldbeck is lovely!

Nicely furnished and comfortable. Lovely and warm after a wet day's walk on the Cumbria Way.

We were charged an extra £10 for the use of the sofa bed, which we had to make up ourselves. This seemed expensive for simply washing a duvet cover and sheet.

Lovely historic stone building attractively comverted and finished A great place.

Very attractive property with old wood floors and stylish modern layout. Good kitchen facilities with choice of tea bags and coffee. Historic building with good guides to Caldbeck and area. Would definitely go back and probabl y spend more than one night. Very easy wa;l tp the pubs etc in the village. Quiet location with thick walls! Congratulations to the owners for the conversion,

Only thing that let down the very high standard was that the towels provided were rather harsh but that might have been a mistake when drying them. Everything else was super.

Self-catering useful. Quirky house - ideal situation for us as rest of group staying in hotel in Caldbeck. We appreciated a one-night booking as we walked to the next overnight stop in Carlisle with our group.

Everything prepared with care but we suggest the cutlery drawer is labelled in large letters as easy to miss, that there is a chair provided in the double-bedded room. We needed to use two beds so the sofa bed option was excellent. Appreciated swift delivery of bed linen when I texted to explain it would also be used - but I can't think where I would have ticked the box to use the sofa bed on the booking. Thought I had explained but couldn't find my message ! Apologise for causing a special journey. Thanks so much !

Very well equiped. Cooking gear, washing facilities, wood stove, … the place is charming, warm and cosy when you arrive after a day of horizontal rain and hail on the Cumbria Way.

Excellent property for a short stay just outside the Lakes but easy access to Ullswater, Keswick, etc. Ideal for anyone walking the Cumbrian Way. Good facilities, very warm and cosy. Caldbeck is a lovely place.

Last minute booking in a quirky little cottage

Last minute booking when let down by another provider nearby. Check-in details were provided within minutes of booking and we were able to access the property with no issues... even at 9pm on a Friday evening. Everything was clean and ready; house instructions left were clear; plenty of kitchen equipment and even tea, coffee etc available.

Relaxing and comfortable

Location was brilliant. Quiet but only a 5 minute walk to the pub, shops and ‘fresh milk vending machine’! View from the lounge window was great. Very comfortable stay.

Post code is insufficient to find property. What 3 Word is ‘decoded.lightly.sparks’ that will get you to the front door. If you are sensitive to noise you can hear the humming of the fridge in the bedroom (but it wasn’t too bad and wouldn’t put me off returning)

Cute quirky cottage.

For a one night stay the property had everything we required. I liked the historical photos & local history books. Spacious rooms. Quirky property that we saw on the internet when it was for sale before it was converted; the owners have done a great job & we would stay again. Very central for food, drink, walks. There is a milk vending machine a short walk away where there is also butter, eggs & cheese available. The bacon was sold out. Can recommend Oddfellows & The Muddy Duck for food.

The used sponge in the kitchen was horrid! Either leave a new one for guests or don't bother, very unhygienic. The blue wooden chairs weren't comfortable, the back is loose on one of them & needs repairing. The staircase handrail has a sticky feel, maybe just needs a wipe? Because people park their cars very close to the property & as its a bedroom and bathroom downstairs, some kind of privacy film on the bedroom & entrance windows would be nice as I felt someone could peer in at anytime so kept the bedroom curtain closed.

Loved the place and look forward to a return visit.

The living room/kitchen was carefully furnished and very pleasant.

The bedroom was a little sparse. It was fine for 1 night but for a longer stay somewhere to put a few things is needed. I suggest some bedside tables with drawers (we have some with 3 reasonably sized drawers each) would make a big difference.

Really enjoyed our stay here. Beautiful place in a lovely part of the country. Very quiet and peaceful, just what we were looking for. The property was very clean, and everything we needed was provided. Great communication from the hosts. Will definitely be staying again.
