I love Sushi but even for me it was really challenging. It’s beautiful hotel with nice service but a bit too pricey. Could reduce 10-15%. But maybe that’s why it’s so seclusive.

Beautiful setting, with fantastic facilities and food on offer. The dinner and breakfast each day was a particular highlight for us. Top quality produce, immaculate cooking, and lovely, friendly and talented staff.

We (two men) were traveling with our daughters - 5 year old and 8 month old so booked the private onsen for us to experience together which we had to pay for. In circumstances like this i would have expected ‘private family onsens’ be included as part of the hotel price.

Wow..... where do I start? The Hakone Gora KARAKU was one of the highlights of our first visit to Japan. Everything from the location, the staff, lounge, restaurants, onsen, and room amenities was perfection! The hotel is beautiful, serene and intimate. It is the type of hotel that you should definitely spend a day just hanging out and relaxing. They provide kimonos, yukatas and slippers to all the guests and everyone wears them inside the hotel -- including the restaurants. We loved it! Hardly needed to unpack our bags! We took advantage of the lovely spa treatments and had facials and massage. The onsen is heavenly and we also had a private outdoor onsen. The hotel is only about a quick stroll from the sweet town of Gora and its' petite train station. We dream of returning! Highly recommend!

The breakfast was horrible. When I checked in they asked about food preferences and sensitivities and despite that continue to give me breakfastS that were contrary to what I had notified them, resulting in me just eating bread and soup for breakfast.

The food could have been better and should have been for the price I was paying. Also we had to move our own luggage to the room yet we saw them bring the luggage for all other customers up for them. We felt like second class citizens. I’m not sure if it was racist because we were American or because we purchased our room through booking.com.
