Located in the heart of Stone Town, this complex includes the main Tembo House Hotel and two annexes across alleyways (Tembo Apartments, Tembo Palace). Navigating between them feels safe, but verify your specific building when booking.
The location is unbeatable, featuring Arabic woodwork, a stunning pool, solid beach/lobby security, and warm restaurant staff. Post-checkout policy is outstanding: after a 10:00 AM checkout, you retain full facility access, secure luggage storage with dedicated attendants, and clean transit showers.
Logistics tip: Time airport transfers around ferry schedules; proximity to the port causes severe gridlock during ferry arrivals.
Drawbacks (Apartment Building / Room C1):
Mosquitoes: Present even in the dry season. No nets were initially installed and spraying wasn't evident, though staff promptly added nets upon request.
Micro-Safe: Only fits passports and phones; useless for cameras or larger tech.
Subpar Wi-Fi: Full signal bars, but poor real throughput—challenging for cloud backups.
Dust on High Surfaces: Visible thick dust on clothes racks and above curtains.
Bathroom/Amenities: Tiny sink ledge (scars visible from a downsized counter), missing toiletries, and no room info directory.
Beach & AC: Waterfront area is unsuitable for swimming; AC remote in C1 was erratic.
