Friendly staff. Clean room and comfortable bed. Lots of privacy despite being above the pub. Our room is facing the street, so there was some random noise but didn't bother us much. Walkable to city center with lots of food and shopping choices. Leeds has developed so many malls with luxury brands.

I arrived early so couldn’t check in however I left my luggage at the bar and when I came back it was in my room! That was really helpful. Bar staff very friendly and accommodating. Will definitely stay there again.

A basic type of 'above the pub' accommodation - all you need is there, including ear plugs which do come in handy at night, but the room and bathroom are a bit shabby and could do with an update. A very convenient location, so it's ok for a night or two.

Staying in room 6 and it is horrific, I’ve been searching for other hotels to stay but Leeds is ultra expensive tonight. I paid £67 for tonight. The walls are filthy, hard non carpeted floor, blood on the bed sheets, no mattress protector, black hairs on the pillows and the mattress under the bed sheet, no TV in the room, something that looks like a wardrobe but actually has a boiler in it, the bed sheet doesn’t totally fit the bed so is stretched for all it’s worth, the mattress is SO uncomfortable and old, it feels like laying on the bed frame. There is a private bathroom which is great but the shower is tiny. Good news! There is electricity, so there is that. A fan is offered, but you won’t need it as it’s freezing in here (in May). Totally regret staying here, do NOT stay here, horrific, can’t wait to get to work tomorrow morning. Update, I left at 11:30pm for a different hotel, this room isn’t fit for anyone staying in, a total disgrace.

Read mixed reviews before my stay. Found it quite pleasant. Some people may find access outside of bar hours difficult as it’s via the fire escape. Location is good. A short walk to city centre & plenty of places to eat & drink in the immediate vicinity. It’s an old building but room was clean & adequately furnished & decorated.

Stay away from this hotel. Pay £30 extra book another instead. Pictures are NOTTTTT the room these pictures are definitely off google. Very dirty smells horrible. Sheets are stained!!! You will regret it. We went there saw the room gave the keys back and booked another hotel. Waste of money!!!!!👎

We stayed here after a concert at the Arena. We picked The Wrens because it was close to the Arena, and that was probably the only good thing. On arrival we were greeted and felt welcomed. Going up the stairs to the 3rd floor there were no lights. Entering the room it was ok, clean and cool. Until you open the bathroom door and the stench was horrendous. I think it was the smell of dampness but it was extremely overpowering thereforewe didnt want to stay in there long enough to use the shower. We obviously slept (I say slept loosely) on the mattress that felt like it was bought from IKEA. Springs sticking into every part of you body whatever position you lie in. Another bad note was that the bed sheets and towels were both stained. For an extra £20 we could have stayed at the Premier Inn, and that £20 definitely seems worth it this morning.

I recently stayed at this hotel for two nights, and it was a horrible experience. The bed had springs poking through, making it impossible to sleep, and to make things worse, I found bed bugs. The carpet was filthy, and there was no cabinet in the bathroom to store personal items. The noise from a nearby club made it hard to rest, and the room was never cleaned during my stay. The pictures online were completely misleading, and I want my money back for such a disappointing and unsanitary experience.

Good Central location but the room was cold without possibility to warm the 2 rooms at the same time with the small portable heating device and the shower was not working ... After 2 persons no hot water anymore. The floor was not clean. That's a shame because the central location is really nice.

Easy to check in and handy that you can check in until 10pm especially when caught on motorway. Was a bit confused with initial directions but managed to locate room. Did expect a bath after seeing pictures but got a shower. Room was absolutely freezing and couldn’t see how to heat it and didn’t feel comfortable going downstairs to ask. Called phone line earlier and like a previous review got no answer. Thought I’d warm up with hot shower, water was lukewarm. Music playing outside until early hours but ear plugs provided in room alongside tea/coffee. On the plus side the bed itself was comfortable and warm and hotel location is good. Easy to checkout

Simon was extremely helpful, very friendly & welcoming. Thank you. We are returning customers and will continue to return, it’s in an ideal location for everything and everywhere, close to the theatre and shops, 1 bedroom apartment with plenty of space. The only downfall is the music from the club behind but if you can handle a bit of noise from the music and students then it’s well worth a stay

Convenient location but be warned - not as advertised! I don’t know where half the photos on the listing were taken but it certainly wasn’t where we stayed! Although stairs were mentioned, be aware it is over 4 floors with very steep and twisted stairs. Could make a great rollercoaster ride if you handle your suitcase wrong! City centre location over a pub, fine, but there are 2-3 nightclubs next to and opposite which aren’t mentioned. Cool if you’re a clubber, not so cool if you are no longer into raving until 4-5am. Apparently they provide complimentary ear plugs if you ask. If you can be bothered to trek back down all the stairs and if the pub is still open, take them up on this. It was reasonably clean when we got there but unfortunately no brush or hoover is provided, or washing up liquid so we couldn’t make their job easier when we left without being able to do a basic clean. If you are in after us, if you find some stray ‘willy confetti’ (hen do!) we do apologise! We did try! Take a towel! Listing states towels provided, the one towel provided between 7 of us isn’t ideal. We’d rather it was listed as ‘not provided’ so we know to bring our own! Not sure what happened with previous guests but my bed was broken…and directly over a massive crack in the ceiling of the floor below. That was a fun find, as was the bug I discovered sharing a bed with me. For the price and convenient location it wasn’t all bad but read reviews carefully to know what you’re getting into!

I have been to the Wrens a few times and found it excellent. So very disappointed to see the pub shut and great difficulty getting access to the room. I appreciate the building work on the road outside caused a problem. We will give it one more chance and see if things are better.

I was the convenient of the shops.but they were a couple of things wrong with the room The toilet flushing system was faulty along with the toilet seat which was loose. The room could do with a bigger tv on the wall so they is more on the desk to work.

Good for the price, location great for atena (was seeing OMD). Little tired but clean & practical. Mattress was a bit thin but ok. Overall, for an economic stay in the City Centre, this was a great coice & i would recommend definitely.

The wrens, not a bad place for the money on the build up to Christmas. Room was simple just could have done with some TLC. Booked in at the bar, staff were friendly, although I asked if there was an iron and board I could use and I didn’t see anyone after asking! All in all, cheap simple place to stay with plenty going on around you

It’s in a good spot , the decor needs updating on the room we stayed . A bit grim in parts . Yes it is noisy outside , you get a key for the side gate to get in after hours which is very tricky to open , especially after a few beers . We actually started to panic thinking we couldn’t get in . But the mrs finally did it but not sure how . Then it’s up the metal fire exit stairs. Bed was comfortable enough . It was ok for our 1 night stay

Incredibly convenient and good value clean basic accommodation with a nice view. Some maintenance needed in bathroom fittings. Perfect to crash after a night on the town - not so much if you need an early night. Lots of late-opening bars in the area and the music reverberating through the building is LOUD. Would be nice to have a more soundproof door as well, as I was treated to every detail of the domestic that erupted at 2am in the corridor outside. Even so, I would definitely go back.

First time staying, had the apartment near the top of the building. Using the fire escape to get in and out was really handy, particularly as it opens near the Belgrave!

We needed a place to get our heads down and sleep after attending a show, before driving home the next day. So, when we checked in, we noted there were one or two signs of tiredness (and scruffiness, to be fair, when I noticed my towel was frayed and had a hole in - but at least it was clean) but it would do what we needed. But while it proved suitable to get our heads down without either breaking the bank or having to travel too far, a good night's sleep simply wasn't possible. Due to its location, it's naturally noisy outside, exacerbated by the fact there was an open external door next to our room, which is kept that way to allow out of hours access via a locked gate. But the general city centre noisiness is something that you can tune out of and wasn't a problem in itself. However, the other guests charging around rowdily in the early hours (on and off until around 5.30am) really wasn't acceptable and meant sleep was hugely deserved throughout. I totally accept that guests and accommodation providers alike can get unlucky with the behaviour of others, but the reason I raise this is that there wasn't any way that we were aware of to raise the issue as it was happening and there was certainly no effort by anyone who worked there (if there was even anyone on site) to deal with the matter. Overall, the location is very handy, the room was ok, but the place lacked any sort of presence that stopped it turning into a production of Lord of the Flies throughout the night.
