It appears that they are refurbishing the rooms. Differently from my last stay, they did not attempt to charge me extra fees on anything. Good bfast and nice bed/ pillows! Good stay overall!

I very much enjoyed my stay at Vila Galé! The staff were excellent from check in to check out, the property itself is beautiful in an old, but updated colonial property. I stayed in one of the apartments right beside the pool and terrace, and even while you were situated with a walkway outside the room, I felt safe and comfortable enough to open the windows wide and take a nap or do whatever within the room. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to explore the beautiful Rio de Janeiro!

I found the hotel clean and well located close to the airport. I was surprised there was no bell man to assist with the luggage despite being at a 5 star hotel. This could be added. In addition, I was not able to order room service despite calling several times- no one answered. I very much appreciated the late check out and the front desk staff was great. Overall a a wonderful stay but a few things could be improved upon.

This has been the worst stay in over a year at this hotel! Usually, when the hotel is full, services get a lot worse and things go bad, as it was the case this time. First, the attendant tried to charge me 15% more. When I asked why I was being charged more than agreed, he mentioned it was a “voluntary” service fee — if it was voluntary he should have asked me first!! When I reserved, asked for a quiet room far from elevators (light sleeper), to avoid the constant “elevator sound” all night long… guess what, I was placed in a room right in front of the elevators. Finally, my room had shades in a size that covered only half of the window, so every day at 6am the sun was shining bright inside my room! Well, really bad stay in years here this time!

The location is great! The facilities are good, too. The room was good, too, but you can hear next door depending on the room assignment (some rooms share a door with next door, that’s why their noises will be audible). The bathroom is good; the shower head had the right pressure, but the lights could be brighter in there. I didn’t get the chance to experience the pool or the bar. Breakfast was wonderful, with many options of pastries, fruits, and omelets.

Awesome hotel that is centrally located for exploring the city.

This reservation was made for members of my family, with payment scheduled to be charged to the credit card registered in my Expedia account. I would not be present at the time of check-in. On the day of arrival, my family contacted me to inform that the hotel was requiring the physical presentation of the credit card or payment in cash. When I spoke with a staff member, I was informed that the payment could be accepted as long as I sent an email confirming my details and attaching a copy of my identification. I explained that I would not send a copy of any personal document but could authorize the payment via email or, if necessary, arrange for payment in cash. After speaking with the manager, the staff member agreed to proceed with the check-in upon receiving my email authorization and processing the payment using the card already registered with Expedia.

The location of the hotel in the more local part of the city allowed for a more chill and authentic feel in Lapa. Plently of food, bars, and nighlife options were available next to the hotel. Staff was attentive and very helpful along with a beautiful property.

The check-in was ok, but my room was so noisy despite I asked for a quiet one.. it also had a lot of broken stuff.. A/C.. door knob.. & so on.. they did change it to a bigger & quieter one, but again sometimes they would only provide one towel.. leave hair & tissues on the floor.. etc…

The hotel seems old with respect to what I expected in the pictures. They are also very strict with check in time and in a city where flights from Europe usually land in the morning I felt it was predatory and cheap of them to charge me for an extra night.

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. Would I stay here again? No. There was no iron or laundry service (you have to pay for it). The buffet is expensive, and the food is not great for the price (80-90 reais). Be careful—I was charged twice for the buffet. Keep your receipts if you pay with the attendant.

Having spent the last month travelling through South America with terrible weather following me wherever I went, I couldn’t wait to get to Rio and spend a few days just laying by the pool. As arrived at Vila Galé and was about to check in I suddenly realised that I’d left my rucksack in the back of the cab from the airport. Luckily Everton, who speaks flawless English, was on the front desk and immediately took charge. He managed to contact the cab driver who 10 minutes later appeared in the lobby with my missing bag. I then realised that I’d booked the wrong room but this was soon rectified by Muna who managed to sort of all out and place me in the room I’d wanted. The staff are uniformly helpful, the breakfast buffet is plentiful, the pool is an oasis on the middle of Lapa. My favourite place in Rio. This was my 4th stay. I’ll be back for a 5th soon.

Hotel Vila Gale in the Lapa district of Rio is a great hotel with friendly and helpful staff. The breakfast was excellent and there is a large swimming pool and sunbathing area. Lapa is close to the Sambadrome during Carnival season, but the area is rundown and there are many rough sleepers on the streets. However, we did not experience any issues and loved all the faded splendour of the old buildings.

I stayed from February 22nd to March 1st, and let me tell you, it was an incredible experience! The location is simply amazing, and the area is buzzing with energy. If you’re a party animal who loves being close to the action, Lapa is the perfect place for you. The hotel staff is absolutely fantastic - they’re friendly, helpful, and go the extra mile to make sure you have a great time. The rooms are spotless, and the cleaning ladies are incredibly friendly. I had an amazing time here, and there were no issues at all. Oh, and our flight was at night, so they were so kind to let us shower at the spa shower before our flight. It was a lovely touch!

Dislikes: breakfast service chaotic…kept running out of plates, cereal bowls, paper napkins (cocktail napkins instead), slow replenishment of food and slow staff. Guests unable to borrow iron and board. Only hotel ironing service available. Very limited bathroom toiletries.

Serene spot for relaxation. Large pool long enough for me to swim laps. Spacious room with almost no street noise disturbance. Staff very attentive and kind, especially Guilherme and Vladimir at reception. Extensive breakfast selection with certain items cooked to your order.

It doesn’t feel like a 4.5 star hotel. The staff didn’t even bother to help with luggage or to say good morning. You get charged the water in the room. Most hotels give that for free. The pool didn’t seem all that clean either. It is located at a good spot since you have everything close by. Just be careful walking at night. It may not be safe.

This is a pleasant enough hotel in a very run down area of Rio. The hotel has seen better days. It uses Brazilian plugs but they have no adapters to lend or buy. The meal service is sketchy. Okay for a very short stay if you do not mind being a prisoner in the hotel at night. I stayed in a what was supposed to be a heritage room but most of the nice features had been stripped out.

I liked the breakfast and pool at this property. The neighborhood unfortunately has alot of homeless people on the streets and garbage but is good if you love music as the Lapa area has many music bars and restaurants. The staff is nice but they do not have too much knowledge about recommendations for swimable beaches and family activities.

Solo traveling female. I unfortunately cut my stay short here and went back to a previous hotel. I was booked here for 4 days, I am traveling to Brazil after visiting 4 countries before (in 1 trip). I had multiple rolling luggage (3) bapack totebag. The security guard was kind enough to take my largest luggage down the flight of stairs to reception. Once I was checked in, I was told my room was on the 2nd floor (pink buildings) and there was no elevator in that area. I asked if someone would be able to help with my bags, mainly just needed help with the 1 larger/heavier luggage (under 50lbs but just big for me) I was told no, they didn't have anyone. I found that odd and just said ok and went to my room. I lug everything upstairs to the room and it's ok. The room is older, boutique style. The bathroom is decent but dated, there was shower gel provided as hand soap at the sink which i found odd but not a big deal. Here's why i had to leave: mosquitoes. I understand it is tropical but the amount of mosquitoes i was swatting within the first hour was insane. I have stayed in hostels in Cuba and other parts of Brazil (Paraná) and didnt have them IN the room (also staff always offers to help you with bags). I ordered dinner delivery and sat at the pool area to eat and guess what I see, a bellman with a luggage cart bringing someone's luggage to the tall white building. So I'm not exactly sure what that was about. I ultimately left after the first night and don't regret it
