The George Hotel

The George Hotel is a wonderful hotel. Having stayed here for nearly a week, I enjoyed my stay. The staff were all very nice and helpful. The location is as good as it can get, as it is in the very center of Penrith. It's a little far from the train station, but very much within walking distance if you're fit for it. There is a market right beside it, restaurants around the square it is in, and stores down either side. It is also right in front of the Penrith clock tower. The free breakfast choice is limited to some pastries and cereal, which I did not enjoy, but it was fine. This hotel does not have a lift, and it was quite the struggle carrying our many bags up the stairs, which I do not hold against them, but must be stated. The rooms do not have air conditioning, so depending on the weather, it can get warm. But it does have a heater for colder seasons. The food served in the restaurant on the ground floor is good. I particularly enjoyed the Sunday menu, especially their Sunday roast.

Too warm, too dingy, beds were alright to be fair, too expensive

We were allocated a room on the top floor very small and dingy which smelt of cigarette smoke it was acrid and got into your lungs. We asked for a room change and told because we booked through a third party a change or defund is not possible we don’t have any other rooms so you will have to go home if you don’t like it. You should have booked direct. Eventually though they did see sense and another room was allocated which was fine. The initial response was not good.
