Surrounded by The Twelve Apostles mountain range and the Atlantic Ocean, this colonial home in Camps Bay's best feature might be the large sash windows that create the illusion of being right in the water. Take advantage of that by watching the tide change from the striped wing chairs, or grab a book from the small library and sink into the brown leather sofa – with the windows open, of course, you want to hear the lapping waves beyond. Get the coffee dripping first thing in the morning and once breakfast has been prepared, you can take it all out on the sun terrace where to eat alfresco. Breathe in the fresh, sea salt air from your position on the sunlouger, take a dip in the clear, solar-heated swimming pool, and when lunch inevitably comes around, be sure to try South Africa’s favourite pastime, the braai. If you’re not up for barbecuing, you can of course sample the eateries of the area. There are a couple of restaurants and cafes around a five-minute walk away. Spend sundrenched days at the beach – there are plenty of options to explore along the coast, including the famous Clifton Beach. Swim in the Camps Bay Tidal Pool, only a short walk away, or pick any one of the tens of hiking trails around – Lion’s Head is an especially popular choice and the starting point is only seven minutes away by car. After a long, tiring day, soak in a bubble bath with a glass of wine in hand. Afterward, why not sit out under the stars with koeksisters or peppermint crisp tart and end the day on a sweet note?
