The Bulls Head Hotel

Location was great , right next to the train station which was ideal for our stay. The bed was extremely comfortable, everything in The room that was needed for a comfortable 1 nights stay . Easy access to building if it was after hours . Complementary water and a small continental breakfast provided. ( we didn’t have breakfast though )

Unfortunately the bathroom could do with some updating and wasn’t very clean. Lots of marks on tiles , shower seals ,door seals ,visible dust and grime on skirting boards .

The room was clean well equipped with plenty towels, teas coffee and orange juice. A fan was supplied because of the heatwave they were having that weekend. Breakfast was nice its continental and left out to help yourself. Fresh milk etc in the fridge decent choice. It’s left in the top hallway to help yourself no interaction from staff. You get your key and thats it. Toiletries and a hairdryer supplied.

The bathroom. The tiles need re grouting and several skirting boards need replaced. Everything else was clean. The metal stairs taking you outside when the bar is closed I didn’t like. We didn’t find the staff friendly apart from the cleaning lady. The bar staff need to enjoy their job more. It seemed a chore to them to have to book us in. We have never booked a room above a pub before and will never do so again. It wasn’t for us. I would still recommend the place as it wasn’t bad. It’s not suitable to our needs.

The room was really clean, the beds were incredibly comfortable, and the staff were super friendly and helpful.

The location was right across from the train station, which was great however, there was nowhere close to eat - the bar below the rooms does not serve food and there are very limited restaurants nearby. Also, there is no lift - you need to climb several flights of stairs to get to the rooms - and when the bar shuts down or when you need to check out, this requires going up or down a steep steel staircase directly onto the street - which doesn't feel really safe -although it is protected by a great security system. Because it was so hot (+38), we had the window open for awhile to try to cool the room down a bit. However little flies were coming in that were biting us so we had to shut the window which made the room really hot and stuffy. Finally, the door on the bathroom did not close so there was a lack of privacy - not a huge issue for a couple but I was there with my daughter and it did bother her.
