Narrow Escape - 50ft Boat on the Grand Union Canal, near Tring

The owner Gavin was totally fantastic training us and as he had confidence in us, we had confidence that we could manage the boat. I won't lie, travelling through locks on the canal is hard work. This experience gave us a taste of life on the canals and the lovely towns and communities of people who live on, and travel by, narrowboats. It was truly an experience of a different lifestyle and taking part in a much slower pace of life. The ducks and friendly swans were a treat along with all the friendly people and dogs on the towpath. The boat had all the ammenities we needed and plenty of space for the two of us.

Opening and closing locks awas a little scary at first but we got into a rhythm and felt confident.

Interesting location, and we never had any intention of taking the barge anywhere, as we booked it as somewhere to stay close to a family party.

Advertised as a 5 bed, or 4 plus child, we (2 septuagenarian sisters) thought of having a couple to stay for one of the 3 nights, but really it was not big enough. We wonder if the 5 bed without more detail is enough?

The place was lovley and relaxing the boat was nice

The boat was freezing the log burner only heated the front of the boat the other end was really cold. There were radiators but told they don't turn them on. I think if you have paying guests who pay quite bit of money £210 for 2 days the boat should be comfortable. If there worried about the price do like other places put a meter for heating. Next boat from us said same they were cold aswell. It would stop people going back in winter.
