Good accommodation with helpful staff very near central Oxford

Good location, within walking distance of the centre of Oxford. Parking available. Room was clean, bathroom and bed comfortable. Large TV, tea and coffee. Very quiet at night given location.
No breakfast facilities or evening meal offered.

Great location, comfortable beds, excellent shower- nice & hot, great water pressure. Coffee & tea left for us.
Nothing not to like

Good room
The accommodation was fine but what let it was the attitude of the manager and cost for car park. It is not easy to locate the cost for the car park, it should be made clear there is a very expensive charge for the car park of £15. Shocking cost! I travel to hundreds of hotels and pubs to stay at and I have never, ever seen a charge of £15 for a pub car park. I had to park on the road outside and take a chance of getting a parking ticket even though I ask for parking in my search. I spoke to the male owner when passed the phone to chat and he was rude and arrogant without saying hi. He just said, its on the system, show him where' and got off the phone. It was obvious he gets this all the time so it is obviously not clear when trying to book.

Location. Character.
Bed too short.

Excellent location
Probably a bit too basic for us now and unfortunately the black horse is situated within the congestion zone. It is not the fault of the property as they have no say in the matter but the congestion charge makes staying there also less desirable. You pay separately for the car parking when you arrive which we did know about which is on a daily basis and then we were also hit by the congestion charge which we did not know about when we booked. Bit annoying really as the black horse car park is only a short distance within the congestion zone.

Great location.
Could have been cleaner around shower, back of toilet door etc. The windows are single glazed and therefore noisy as expected from location but simple secondary glazing would make a huge amount of difference.

Originally an old coaching in so quirky layout upstairs
Done out like a sports bar downstairs - on a main road that the traffic never stopped all night. The hotel shuck from the traffic and when that didn’t keep you awake the noisy students over the road till 2am did

We stayed in a self contained apartment with four people, behind the Inn. It was conveniently located just around a corner of Cowley Street, where we could find nice breakfast and dinner places, and in approx 10 minutes we were in the center of Oxford. Everything was well within walking distance.
The beds were comfortable and clean. The communication with the owner was through booking.com and went very smoothly.
The bathroom was a bit small.

The location
When buses and lorries passed, the bed and floor shook. Very noisy at times

The young lady we dealt with was very nice and tried to help. Location was ok.
Disappointing Stay — Poor Value for Money
Unfortunately, our experience was far below expectations given the price we paid. The room was extremely noisy at night, making it hard to sleep, and the bed was very uncomfortable. The pillows were old, lumpy, and in such poor condition that the pillowcases were even torn. When we asked for replacements, we were told none were available.
We ended up using extra towels as makeshift pillows just to get some rest. For the amount charged, this level of comfort and upkeep is unacceptable — you would expect at least clean, supportive bedding and basic room maintenance.
Our towels were not replaced on the second day, and only one roll of toilet paper was provided. Combined with the constant noise from outside, it made for a very unpleasant stay.
The only positive was the location, which was convenient — but sadly, that’s where the positives end. Definitely not worth the high price.

Great location. Lots of room. Quiet.
Worn and dated. The Internet was horrible, and often didn’t work (ancient Netgear equipment). No wash cloths. No top sheets. Flooring is worn badly. The door to the water heater next to the shower didn’t close. Some of the bathroom tile grout has spots of mold.

For our purposes (close to the Magdalen College side of Oxford and the centre) it was perfect, exactly as we wished. The double-story apartment we had at the back was also very private and quiet, the space (because we had to look after a one-and-a-half year old every afternoon) very suited to allow him to rest or play with toys.
It's an old place, flooring damaged, cramped kitchen with no table to sit at (a bed was next to the kitchen cupboards and another double-bed on the other side of the room, probably good for sleeping more people but not for eating). The front door had a somewhat wonky latch, no other security (though the apartment, perhaps originally part of stables long ago, backed onto a parking area with security cameras, the parking area used daily by all sorts of people who presumably pay for that in an otherwise tricky Oxford for cars).

Returning customer. Perfectly located. Has ground floor rooms for those with disabilities or elderly guests.
Car parking charge of £15 daily on top of booking costs. The only positive with this is that it's paid directly to the accommodation.

Location excellent, just a 5 minute walk from the vibrant city centre. Car parking at Hotel excellent and the hotel itself oldie worldy and quaint in many ways. An old property so the stairs were a little twisty and uneven but no problem, the room a little compact but cosy, the bed really comfy and the shower with instant hot water and great pressure! Well worth the cost! Pete, the manager helped us enormously with check in and out times and the door/key system was perfect! Thank you Pete. Room cleaned even though not expected for a 2 night stay, so thanks again!
Room a little on the small side but expected at such a lovely old property.

Impossibly low ceilings in the bedroom which was on a slant. Up several flights of very narrow stairs with a suitcase - not good. Had to crouch to get into and use the shower.

Location close to colleges etc was good, walking distance. It’s about 30 minute walk from train station. Room was clean. Plenty of towels. Shower was fine but hard to get temp right as veered from cold to very hot.
Well, we thought, looking at website, that this was a pub with rooms, but was not an operational pub at all; the place is just rooms. What used to be the pub/bar area is all locked up. It’s not open til 2 in afternoon so we could not deposit bags when we arrived at 11.30, & had to cart them around for 2 hours. Couldn’t leave them next morning either til we were leaving, so, again, had to cart them about til our train at 2. Rooms are up narrow stairs & locks were very basic. Didn’t feel particularly secure. Had to enter at night through back door with a code to access stairs; rest of place was dark & locked up. Guy who met us at 2 didn’t say there’s no duty manager at all, which was a problem when fire alarm went off at 2 a.m. A guy staying there (thank goodness for him) phoned a number on wall & eventually sorted out alarm, while rest of us stood about. Didn’t re-enter with much confidence so had a very poor night’s sleep. So, no, do not recommend I’m afraid.

Great welcome by the host, very quirky room with slanted ceiling and floor. Tea and coffee and toiletries were provided and a fan, very needed in the hot weather.
The mattress was a little soft and the sheets didnt quite fit the bed.
5.0 / 10.0
Very very noisy location, Very expensive and no breakfast included. The bed wasn’t particularly comfortable, the fridge didn’t work, the decor was dated.
6.0 / 10.0
Excellent location within walking distance to city center.
Access to a car parking on site.
Fan provided as it was a hot day but not needed, room temperature perfect.
Large TV.
Kettle, tea and milk etc provided.
Modern room.
Comfortable bed.
Car parking was expensive and an additional payment (I paid £45 for 3 days of parking, of £15/per day). The cost of accomodation was pricey and probably only worth it if parking was included free.
I advise everyone to inform them if you intend to use the car park and REQUEST THE BARRIER CODE TO BE PROVIDED PRIOR TO YOUR ARRIVAL.
I messaged beforehand to inform them of my intentions to purchase car parking and my early morning arrival time. All good, prompt correspondence. However, they omitted to tell me where exactly the car parking lot is, the fact that there is a barrier and they did not tell me the code to access the car parking. They omitted to tell me that the pub would be closed at the time of my arrival so I could not even ask them for the car park code when I arrived. No signal so I could not phone them. I had to wait outside the property for a very long time, knocking on the door. A rude, grumpy cleaner finally answered. Absolute nightmare.
In the property from my room, noise level from the street at all hours including overnight was extremely loud. This is without my hearing aids on and the windows were closed and I am not a light sleeper- so if I noticed the noise then it must be LOUD.
No breakfast options at the accomodation which is a shame.
Shower was difficult to operate and switched between scalding hot and very cold, so unable to enjoy a good shower. Weak flow of water.
8.0 / 10.0
I liked that the property was an old and wonky building. It had everything we needed in the room, and everything worked well and suited our needs. It was clean, and there was tea and coffee in the room too. Also its located in a great position, part way between the centre, cowley, and headington, making nothing that far to walk to.
The lighting could be slightly more cozy, and the deco is not my style, but thats just being picky!

4.0 / 10.0
Central location for our purposes. Three beds and decent enough shower.
Very hot particularly upstairs, which I realise was out of their control and fans were provided. No side lights in the bedrooms. No blind at the window in the bathroom. Couldn’t open a window in the bathroom. Found a cockroach in the upstairs bedroom. The freezer compartment of the fridge was completely iced up so couldn’t put anything in there. Came out of our room on both days to near fall over the painting stuff right outside our room. And decorators very noisy at 7:45am

Friendly staff. Willing to go the extra mile. Perfect location!
6.0 / 10.0
Clean, convenient for central Oxford and good value.
Entrance difficult off car park (steps, and narrow landings; reception such as it was through the pub)
5.0 / 10.0
Location - a 10-minute walk to the colleges/High Street. Close to cafés, restaurants and the Botanic Gardens. But…
The noise overlooking the main road, noisy drinkers outside pubs till late.
The WiFi simply did not work despite resetting etc. It was cramped and the floor was uneven; that was admittedly because it’s an old building, but not to that extent. All-in-all it’s overpriced.

The noise of the road outside and the mattress was uncomfortable.

Old, dirty, cramped, unmanaged.
Our room was an odd shape, old, dusty, dirty, cramped. The worst accommodation in our travels.

Location to the city centre and facilities in the room I.e fridge, kettle and availablity of on site parking
To be honest couldn’t find anything
4.0 / 10.0
The location was good for visiting central Oxford. The room was clean and tidy and the staff friendly
The road noise was unbearable and very time a lorry or bus went passed, the room actually shook. This mean you couldn't get any decent sleep - we were completely exhausted after our 2 night stay. Secondary glazing would have helped but unfortunately this issue is probably not something the hotel can resolve.
8.0 / 10.0
The room was comfortable. I liked that there was a small refrigerator. Whoever furnished the room seems to have taken extra care to make it as pleasant as possible. The location was convenient, not far from Magdalen College.
There wasn't any bag storage available when we arrived before checkin time. The hallway and stairs were somewhat difficult to navigate, with low ceiling clearance. There is no breakfast provided.
2.0 / 10.0
The location is excellent, very close to the centre of Oxford and also to Cowley Road which has a mix of international places to eat.
It was very dirty (blood stains, bugs and paint on the sheets, years worth of filth behind the beds and in the oven, toaster had grease and crumbs all over it). You could literally follow a conversation in the next room. Thankfully we only had neighbours on the last day. A desperate immigrant may be grateful for the roof but for a paying guest it is unacceptable.
8.0 / 10.0
Location good no breakfast but great little cafe out the back
Breakfast, opening window, larger shower
3.0 / 10.0
Location okay, good bus service nearby. Towels decent.
“Flat”located at back of pub, sleeps 5 in 2 rooms.Car park outside, cars were parked literally inches from windows, blinds closed permanently for privacy, like living in a cave.Oven about a meter from bed(no cooking equipment)one chair for all to share. Bathroom was very tight, sitting on toilet and knees touch wall (I’m 5’4l).We were only 2 people so we could put luggage and clothes in spare room otherwise there wouldn’t be space to store cases etc. Overall this accommodation is very poorly maintained and shabby and needs a good deep clean. Definitely not worth the money.
5.0 / 10.0
Good location. Car park at a very reasonable price.
Hard bed, hard pillows, room had a thick layer of dust on all surfaces. Old water in the kettle.
9.0 / 10.0
Location, comfort and cleanliness. Staff were very friendly and minimum of formality.
Rooms were tidied and restocked without having to hang requests on doors all the time.
