Location to walk into Dobcross and uppermill was good. Definitely not if you are unfit as the footpath is steep. Accommodation was nice but as its a cottage its old, but we didn't mind that. The owner was very prompt in replying and pleasant.
The picture is very deceiving. This is the back of the cottage and parking is where the person taking the picture is. Its very tight as the residents next door have 3 cars and you need to turn around to get out again. Nickerbrow is a very tight lane. Smells old and musty but that's what you would expect for a cottage that's 100s years old. AGA was very warm and couldn't be turned off. Ideal for winter. Bathroom needs an update, the shower was noisy to get it to a good temperature and toilet flush was very loud. We understand its old but a update of furniture and a proper ironing board would be nice. Ironing on the floor on my knees didn't go down well. We took travel coat hangers and glad we did. There was a leak in the downstairs toilet which we reported on our last day as it happened that day. Fridge really needs a new one, also the vacuum to clean was one from the 70s, great to see one but it didn't have good suction. A deep clean and update also a back door to go into the garden and better parking. It was lovely to be close to family but as parking wasn't possible we couldn't invite them to see the place.

This C18 Saddleworth farmhouse is a real find. It has been beautifully restored and decorated. It is 3 minutes walk from the central Conservation Area of Dobcross with the Swan Pub (excellent food, warmth and welcome). The house was wonderfully warm during a cold and wet winter week. Sitting by the Aga in a farmhouse kitchen after an afternoon on the moors of the Peak District (which adjoins Dobcross on 2 sides) or exploring the Pennine mill villages and hill settlements is a delight. The Huddersfield Narrow Canal is 2 minutes away on foot. There are hourly buses through Dobcross and a lovely walk along the Delph Donkey ex railway to Greenfield Station which connects Huddersfield and Manchester. The Pennine Way is accessible either by a good walk or 5 minute drive as is the stunning Dove Stone area within the National Park. Marsden and Stalybridge (the next rail stops through the tunnel on the way to Huddersfield) on the east of the Pennines are stunning mill towns and well worth a visit.
I wish that I could have stayed longer.

location was superb--in a historic Pennine hill village a hundred yards from an excellent pub with variety of walks on paths, or over the moors on the doorstep
I would like to have stayed longer

The furniture and decor was superb in this beautifully restored historic building of 1765 with weavers windows. The surrounding conservation area village of Dobcross. The quiet. The views of Saddleworth Moor from the main bedroom. I have stayed in many places in and around Saddle worth over 25 years---this was by far the best.
There was no welcome pack of tea, coffee and milk
