La Luna Suites

If you're looking for a place with top standard, that is new and has everything necessary to live comfortably, in a quiet and safe neighborhood with nice bakeries and very authentic restaurants (mostly for locals) nearby, this is the one you'd like to choose. The owners are extremely nice and helpful, helped us a lot with many different things during our stay. The fridge was waiting for us full of goodies which was a very pleasant surprise. The whole stay was perfect. Highly recommended for people working remotely who are looking for their next stop, but also for travellers for a base to explore Crete.

So—I loved this place so much, I doubled my stay! (Please see my other review too.) This property was so comfortable and secure—and again—the hosts—I really cannot say enough good things about Maria and Michalis and their family. They went so far above and beyond what I would expect of hosts. I have travelled for decades and have stayed in all kinds of places from youth hostels to 5 star resort hotels all over the world—and I have never before experienced the kindness and hospitality that I did here. I was treated like I was a member of their family—fed and protected like one of their own (during a highly stressful family medical emergency situation). Now—other travelers may not need any attention—I thought I didn’t—but their sincere care and concern was one of the most beautiful experiences I have ever had and they literally saved me. Before meeting them, I would have said I would never return to Greece—but now I would like to plan a return trip to see them again and stay in their lovely property.

I took a chance on this brand new property and I am SO glad I did! This unit was beautifully and functionally decorated and had everything I needed for my stay—including blazing fast wifi and a clothes washing machine. I really liked the loft arrangement for the bedroom area. I was an individual traveler, but the suite would be very spacious for two and would comfortably fit four. The security of the unit is excellent, and I also really liked that the pool area (shared between the two units) had a secure, lockable gate enclosure. The unit was light and bright all day long, but with the storm shutters closed, I could lock that place up like a vault—and with the AC on—a dark, cool vault in which to sleep as many hours as I needed. The location was ideal from my standpoint—I wanted to be close to the University of Heraklion Hospital (what started as a holiday did not end up that way). This place was an absolute oasis from the stress of my situation. The neighborhood in which it’s located is very safe with many family homes. The small town of Agia Marina is a two minute walk away—beautiful church and some shops/restaurants. I was lucky enough to be there for a church celebration and street festival—so fun! I stayed in two other places during my time on Crete—both with potential danger from loose/stray dogs—but not this location—again, very safe. The absolute treasure of this property though—beyond all the wonderful things I already mentioned—are the hosts—Maria and Michalis—they are the epitome of the famous Greek hospitality. They had stocked the fridge with food and drink of all sorts and were extremely responsive if I had any questions or requests (they live next door—which does help). When can I return?!?

No shortcomings from my perspective. If you are looking for something within walking distance to Heraklion City center, this is not the place for you—but it IS located very close to the major highway that can take you anywhere on Crete. I think their particular units would be fantastic for two families or couples traveling together to explore all of Crete from a centralized location—and then come “home” to a safe and pleasant oasis.
