Fabulous place to stay. Quiet despite our room being so close to the restaurant and it being midsummer’s eve and day, there was absolutely no noise issues. The women at reception were friendly and the one on the morning we left was particularly kind, allowing us to leave our luggage and refill our water bottles for our onward journey to stockholm. Kalmar is a fabulous small town to visit and surprisingly it has been one of our favorite places on our 2 month trip through the Baltic states and Scandinavia

The hotel is a beautiful oasis in Kalmar very close to the castle with a restaurant and wonderful patio. Staff was warm and very helpful, and the bikes and afternoon snacks were a treat. Thank you for making our stay so special.

On the way to Öland stayed one night in Kalmar, and the hotel was close to the Kalmarslott (Kalmar Palace). It is nice sightseening place!

There are a number of different buildings to this hotel. We upgraded to a “quad” for the larger space. It contained a king bed and a pullout sofa which we did not pull out. The room was clean and the shower good. A plus was the heated towel rack which dried a number of things in our 2day stay. Our room happened to be in a lovely old house which unfortunately happened to be on the corner of this large property. If the windows were open , it was loud from traffic noise. Closing the windows actually made it quiet and after 11 there was no traffic at all. The property is country European with a restaurant in the back (our dinner was delightful and accompanied by an adorable young accordion player in a semi-covered courtyard.) There is an outdoor hot tub ( which we did not try) and various outdoor relaxing areas plus an inside and outside bar. We were there late August and the seemingly ever present breeze made the high temperatures and 70% humidity bearable. It cooled at night and so did the parties outside at the hotel. The staff are all wonderfully accommodating both in the hotel and the restaurant. We recommend Slottshotellet

The Hotel is pretty with a little courtyard where the restaurant is situated. The rooms are in different buildings around the courtyard. Our room was small but adequate for one night. Due to it being on the ground floor , it is not very private.

Lovely welcoming staff at a quaint and quiet property. The room was nicely laid out and provided everything we needed. Beds were comfortable and we had some great sleeps. The room was upstairs and was warm but the area was quiet and safe so the windows could be left open for air circulation. Our room apparently had some plumbing issues before our arrival so it did smell of sewage when we checked in. This largely went away but there were was the occasional waft. Keeping the bathroom door closed helped. We enjoyed more than one meal and drink in the restaurant. Everything we ordered was excellent. A wonderful breakfast was served each morning with lots of options. We loved the beautiful courtyard seating. The location is close to Kalmar Central Station but in a lovely park-like neighbourhood. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

Lovely and idyllic hotel, we slept well here. Nice garden/ bar outside. Tasty breakfast. Also a little parking area next to the hotel. The city center is very close, quick to walk there.

Disappointed. Grounds were not well kept. Dirty, weeds, broom and unswept sidewalk at entrance to our unit was left there the entire stay. Room was barely cleaned and the patio outside our suite was very dirty with bird droppings, weeds, dirt and branches and debri on the chairs, table and patio floor making it not useable. Loud music was played next to the jacuzzi which was right outside our unit and was obnoxious and made it hard to sleep. We have been wondering why in the world this hotel was recommended in Rick Steves travel guide. Would not stay there again.

Wonderful hotel in a great location just down the street from Kalmar Castle and the train station. Shops and restaurants within a five minute walk. Room was clean, comfortable, cozy, and nicely appointed. Warm breakfast was served in the hotel restaurant. The hotel staff was absolutely amazing, very friendly and hospitable. I can’t emphasize enough how welcoming the staff was. I will definitely be staying at Slottshottelet next time I visit Kalmar. It truly felt like a home away from home.

Our major complaint was the floor drain in the shower outgassing sewer gases, creating a rather bad smell in the room. We sort of mitigated it by placing a wet towel over the floor drain to block the smell.

The hotel has a good location, which is the main benefit - the castle and city centre are in a walking distance. The room (in a house next door) was big enough but unfortunately not very clean (dirt around door handles, dust and hairs on the floor, etc.). Not something you would expect to experience in a four-star hotel! On-site parking was possible for a fee (90 SEK) and the breakfast was varied enough.

Really beautiful hotel and very inviting and cozy. It is a historical bldg. and therefore has no elevator. Not a big deal as there are just 3 floors. Just pack light :-) as you will need to carry your own bags (Covid). They did a nice job of distancing people during breakfast by setting appointments (thank you) but failed to do the same for the light dinner offered. Staff are super nice and polite.

The junior suite was unreal! So beautiful! I could have stayed there a week! Old, in the best way possible. Breakfast was delicious , and the area was lovely. We walked literally, just a few minutes to Kalmar Slott. No A/C, so a fan would have helped. It was a little difficult to manage all the luggage, when the check in was at a different building than the guest rooms. But it was totally worth it! One of the prettiest rooms I’ve ever stayed in!

The location was excellent. The setting and rooms were wonderful. The breakfast was greatly appreciated. The only issue we encountered involved us having to carry large suitcases up to the 3rd floor. However, we were readily accommodated in a lower level floor, so everything worked out well. Would highly recommend this hotel.

The positive things: Big and clean room, decent bed, pleasant and quiet surroundings, friendly staff. The negative things: Very and basic room ("budget room" in the annexe, still not cheap at nearly SEK 1000:- for a double room!): Few and small pillows, no extra blankets. Drafty windows, thin walls with noises from next door/corridor very audible. Poorly executed bathroom floor with nothing preventing all water from the shower to spread all over: A small rubber scraper was provided, but I don't think guests should be made to kneel on the floor, mopping up water! A dozen extra towels would have been needed to remedy this! "Dinner included" was a very sad business: We didn't expect beluga and fois gras but the "dinner" was presented as "Pasta with Smoked Pork in a Tomato Sauce, Salad, Bread and Butter". The pasta was of the cheapest possible type, had been kept heated for hours, so almost a solid block, very soggy and tasteless. The smoked pork appeared as small fragments in a disgusting pale pink sauce, which tasted like tomato ketchup diluted with dried onion powder, flour and possibly a drop of milk. The salad consisted of a chopped head of lettuce, poorly trimmed with much brown parts left in, chopped tomato, chopped cucumber, tinned beans and tinned sweet corn. Everything gave the impression of having been made up as cheaply as ever possible. If served in a prison would probably have caused serious rioting: A hot dog would have been better! Serious mistake to serve this!
