Staff helpful and pleasant except for one staff member at breakfast who was actually rude and unhelpful, which was a shame as she let the hotel down. However, overall, nice place and welcoming.

Great location, pub, garden. We stayed there during the heat wave and the first night was intolerably hot and stuffy. Greene King puts devices in their windows to keep them from being opened. After we asked, the staff released the lock on one of the windows. This improved things, but it was still very stuffy. We appreciated their doing this, regardless. GK: those window inhibitors are ridiculous, and unsafe for us. What if there had been a fire? They may reduce the risk of someone climbing out (how often does that happen?), but increases the risk for guests in case of an emergency. I suggest making them optional. Overall, the hotel is recommended.
