    Beautiful hotel that was both modern and well finished yet kept the historic feel of the building. Lovely breakfast menu and free cheese board at happy hour. Would certainly recommend

    Stayed a few times now and the Falstaff never disappoints. Clean, well equipped and generally a nice place to staff. Location is perfect.

    We stayed at this hotel over a long weekend in June, when we booked we were very looking forward to staying as in the pictures looked really good. When we arrived the staff a reception was very helpful and quickly checked us in, showed our room which was at the back of the hotel in a separate type of building. The room (33) itself was big and bathroom was a good size with a bath not a walk in shower which we would have preferred. As we stepped into room I quickly noticed that the only window in the room was facing a very busy main road! The traffic noise was atrocious! There was no air-con in the room so only two little windows to open at the top, being the hottest day of the year the room was really boiling. I immediately went back to reception to see if they had another room available and we had some stains in the toilet seat nothing major but looked like coffee stains. I was told because the hotel was overbooked no rooms available, I pointed out the noise level due to the traffic being soo loud and that we couldn’t open the little gap of a window. We were provided with a fan which helped a bit but every time we went to our room it was boiling, couldn’t sleep well due to the traffic noise even though the windows was shut!! The bed was a big double but very uncomfortable, hard mattress not orthopaedic but cheap hard! Not a comfortable night sleep! The room lacked of basic touches like you would get in another hotels, such as earbuds in a pack, cotton pads, a small soap and maybe a disposable toothbrush! None of this was provided only cheap shower gel and shampoo. Breakfast was lacking in taste and choice of continental products was very basic, a big bowl of natural yogurt swimming in its own water looked a bit curdled. The jams and marmalades was in a big glass pots again and looked it had been there for some time, not sure if the expiry date has passed. The only thing that was nice was the fruit compote. Cooked breakfast was poor, and if you ordered latte or cappuccino you get charged extra, only filter coffee and tea was included in the hot breakfast. We skipped and had the most basic things. The staff was at tentative when you eventually got sat down but the food coming out took ages for a basic scrambled eggs on toast! Overall, we wouldn’t stay here again due to the room, had the worse sleep and breakfast wasn’t good!
