I have lived three times in Indonesia, so I long ago lost track of how many times I have visited Bali. These days I prefer Ubud as cultural center to the beaches. And my favorite hotel is Devi's Place in a nearby village. They have both cottages for 1-3 people and villas for larger groups. Very relaxing, an off the beaten track experience for Bali.

The villa was very spacious and had lovely views of the rice fields behind it. The pool was clean and a good size so the kids loved it. The staff were great and very friendly. Breakfast each day was lovely and delivered to the room each morning quickly after being ordered. The location is good as a base to travel round the Ubud area. You do need a taxi or to rent a scooter to get to the centre of Ubud but that is fine given transport is so cheap in the area. Would definitely recommend the hotel and room and would stay there again if back in the area.

I had the pleasure of staying at Dave’s place six years ago and never forgot my experience staying there. I came back with my husband this time for what was a 20 day long trip we finished our day at Devi’s, and it was just as charming and gorgeous as I remembered. The of properties ran by a family that is extremely kind, sweet, and attentive. One of my favorite features of the property are the two cats Tui & Limpy. Has been there as long as I have been coming to Devi’s so it was special to see her again. What I love about Devi’s is that you’re walking distance from city center if you like to walk.. and you have an incredible café that’s through the rice patty called Moksa who has a farmers market on Saturdays. The property itself is charming, comfortable, and quiet. I have stayed in many luxury five stars from both the Ritz, the royal Mansour etc to name a small few and Cappella Ubud on this trip - yet Devi’s remains a cozy favorite of mine for is beautiful simplicity and Balinese comfy home vibes. I will return again next year to stay at Devis again, and already have my reservation booked!
