About this cottage rental

Bodlawen (meaning “happy house” in Welsh) is a comfortable, well equipped five bedroom holiday cottage for up to eight guests. Formerly the old post office for the little hamlet of Glasfryn, Conwy, it is situated very conveniently on the edge of the Snowdonia region with easy access to most of North Wales’s attractions.

The ground floor houses a comfortable living room with log burner, a modern kitchen and dining room with a utility room ideal for dog walkers. Also on the ground floor is a king size bedroom with en suite toilet and shower. Upstairs are a further four bedrooms, one king size, one small double and two single bedrooms. A travel cot is available, together with a high chair if required. Please note that access to one of the single bedrooms is via the small double, ideal for parents with a young child. Also on the first floor is a bathroom with toilet, and a separate WC.

There are three parking spaces, and because the house is directly on the A5, guests with dogs or young children are advised to use the rear entrance to avoid the traffic.

Nearby attractions are a Championship Karting track (1 mile), Llyn Alwen reservoir, ideal for dog walkers (approx 4 miles) and the larger reservoir Llyn Brenig, with visitor centre, children’s play area, restaurant and nature reserve, with boats and bicycles available for hire (approx 5 miles). The highest pub in Wales, the 400 year old Sportsman’s Arms, is roughly 9 miles away.
The cottage is also convenient for visiting Betws y Coed (approx 9 miles), waterfalls, zip wires (eg the Fforest Coaster approx 11 miles), steam railways (Bala approx 13 miles, Ffestiniog approx 19 miles and Llangollen approx 20 miles), the seaside at Llandudno or Harlech and castles such as Conwy or Criccieth. Porthmadog and Portmeirion are within easy reach by car. The new T10 bus service can take you on a beautiful ride through Snowdonia to Bangor if you don’t want the hassle of driving, and connects at Betws y Coed with the Conwy Valley train to Llandudno. Snowdon itself is only 38 minutes by car (approx 24 miles away) and there are pleasant drives across the moors and valleys in every direction.

Holiday home was as described, well equipped kitchen, spacious bedrooms, handy utility room, both dinning room & living room were perfect for our party. Welcome hamper was a good really lovely touch. Great base for exploring North Wales.

Quirky property - plenty of living room downstairs for our party of seven. But there is no outside space to speak of - the property sits right on the very fast A-road so no pleasure in sitting out front, and an oil leak from the CH system made the back yard unusable. Extra steps and odd angles at the top of the stairs & in the back bedroom waited to clunk unwary heads! Luckily, the less-mobile member of our party was safely ensconced in the downstairs suite. Everywhere we wanted to visit seemed to be an hour's drive away! So the location was good in the sense that we were handily placed for lots of things, but we clocked up plenty of mileage. Highlights were Great Orme, Portmerion and tobogganning through the forest!

Pleasant cottage, roomy & perfect for 8 people. The road outside is 60mph so pulling out of the property can be hazardous. Wouldn’t recommend to families with younger children or dogs. The stairs upstairs are not ideal for older occupants or toddlers, however there is a stair gate fitted but feel one would be needed at the top of the stairs also. The cottage was clean and kitchen equipped with everything we needed. We struggled drying clothes as only one towel rail in wet room and the cottage had a dampness to it, even our bread left out and in the bread bin was wet after a couple of days. The cottage is in a good central location but a shame no local convenience stores. We would recommend but if we had been made aware of the road before booking we may have looked elsewhere. The hosts were lovely and so accommodating.

The family house has a lot of space, including a separate bedroom and bathroom for another couple. The kitchen is very well equipped, and the view on the surrounding Welsh countryside is fabulous, especially from the window at the front! The shower and the tap in the kitchen did not always provide warm water.
