First Solo Trip

My host Adam was kind, caring, respectful and gave me reassurance that if I needed any help to just press the doorbell. This was my first solo trip therefore I was naturally nervous. Adam was discreet, unobtrusive and respectful of me as a single lady. I did indeed need some help and advice. I pressed the doorbell and Adam true to his word was there to assist me. The single room and shower room were perfect for my needs and the Ivy House is beautifully decorated. The bed, sheets and pillows were more comfortable than my own at home and ensured a good night's sleep. The location was perfect. The area felt safe. It was an all round perfect experience. Thankyou Adam and your Team for your kindness and for making me feel welcome at The Ivy House. You provided me with a sense of security and safety on my first Solo trip. I will definitely stay again.

Dreadful room - it's fit for a pair of students that want to pay a pittance

The location was the only redeeming feature

Mattress was very uncomfortable, TV only partially worked, I couldn't fit in the shower as it was tiny and the kettle base was filthy and you couldn't make a drink !

Decent option if you are traveling solo and need somewhere to stay that gives you good value for your money.

I enjoyed this location as somewhere to stop for a single nights stay. The location was excellent. Value for money was also good compared to other options.

Rooms are quite small. Even though a private bathroom was included, this was not attached to the room, which was not ideal.

Location was convenient for me - close to centre and close to the relative I was visiting. Bed was comfortable. There was hot water.

I was alone in a twin room so the room size was OK for me, but it would be small for two people, especially as beds were bunk beds, the bottom bed was too low to sit upright in and there was only one chair. Bathroom also very small - OK for me, but could be a problem for some. Very expensive for the quality provided (typical for Edinburgh).

Great stay would come back!

The owner was very lovely and made me feel very safe as a solo female traveller. Great location, very comfortable bed! Sharing the bathrooms was never an issue! Really enjoyed my stay :)

Could use a lamp beside the bed for reading at night but that’s more a suggestion than anything else!

Great price and location. I was so comfortable in the room. Close to difficult bus routes, the train station. It was lovely.

That it took me too long to figure out the shower. I took my glasses off and couldn't see/read the buttons. Once I put them back on, I adjusted the buttons easily.

Very lovely and kind staff. With a shared bathroom, I particularly liked having a sink in the room, which made life a lot easier when filling the kettle, or even just washing my hands.

Great for my short stay

Great location. Able to easily walk to the Haymarket, Princes Street etc. The bed was comfortable, the room and property were very clean and the street was quiet during the night. The host was very helpful and nice if you needed him.

A pleasant room to sleep in for a stay in Edinburgh, with good facilities.

The bed and room were very comfortable and clean. The Scottish decor was fun! The shared bathroom was clean and the shower worked brilliantly. Good amount of shower gel provided. The locks on the bathroom and bedroom were reassuringly easy to use. The complete freedom to come and go when you pleased was very convenient, as was the central location of the guesthouse. I had to stay for one night due to a holiday emergency and the host was very friendly and accommodating.

The only complaint I have was the towel. I don’t know what it was made of but the material felt strangely sticky. A cotton towel would be more comfortable.

It is 'just' a room with a bed - so very simple. But in walking distance to where I had meetings and to central Edinburgh (a bit longer walk but ok)

Good value in a useful location in the middle of town

My room at the back of the building was nice and quiet, and had a very shiny and new looking en-suite bathroom. Useful location in walking distance of lots of things in central Edinburgh, with plenty of eating options and supermarkets very close.

Paintwork in the stairs and common areas looks a bit chipped and scuffed, but look past that and this is a great little place.

Place was very good value for the money. Mr Adam always do his best to please his customer. Excellent experience I had in Braveheart house

No phone in the bedrooms. Few minor maintenance in the bathroom. But all was manageable.

Perfect for our family.

The beds were really comfortable and the room very clean. Location excellent and Mr Adam is charming and helpful.

It was a shame no breakfast, but Mr Adam explained why and there are great cafes nearby anyway, so no big problem.
