It was the worst stay I can remember. It was NOTHING like what was advertised on Booking.com

There was no breakfast and the location was further away than it appeared to be on the map.

I am 85 years old - I had 3 heavy suitcases as I was attending and lecturing at a conference. Nowhere was it mentioned that the accommodation was five floors up with no elevator. The room was NOT as shown on the booking and was nothing more than a single 'cell' with broken drawers, a broken table lamp, one single power outlet high up on the wall and basically nowhere to charge any devices. The mattress was a thin piece of foam, one flat pillow, no pillow case, no loose sheet on the bed. The towel was threadbare and hard as sandpaper. There was no place to hang clothing, not a single hanger anywhere. There was no waste bin in the room nor in the kitchen. Instructions for entry were too complex - especially late at night when the hall light kept on turning off. a better description would have been 'Single room Backpackers Hostel'

*20min walking from the train station *Very good price, was the main reason I booked *Shared kitchen *No-contact checkin *Simple but clean, hot water in the shower

*Loud neighborhood, drunken people on the streets and I couldn't sleep if the windows were not closed *At least a fan would help a lot during summer, there wasn't anything *A microwave in the kitchen would be great as well, there was only the stove/oven *Can only checkin from exactly 15:00, the door will not open before that

Nothing! Beds got allergies type of something. Could not sleep. Had to sleep on the floor

There was no dustbin, the fan was small. Bed sheets were dirty. It gave a rash also. Also we had to give deposit money, which is really weird. The customer service number was not helpful at all. There was no stuff, though we were there before 12 AM. Worst experience

The room smelled not clean, also the bedsheets. It was uncomfortable to stay in this atmosphere. It is in a very shady building. You have to pay 100 francs as a deposit on a 3rd party website before you can have your keys. There was no toilet paper in the bathroom.

I did not stay, but had to pay full price, feels like a scam

The check-in process was very difficult; there was no one to help. The system is an old, outdated automated one that requires you to call a number and enter details on a website, and even then you can’t complete it because of bugs. I gave up and left. I do not recommend it for first-time users. The customer service was very poor, and there are no refunds even if you don’t stay.

Excellent stay and not too expensive!

Excellent apartment and service! Only downside is that there is no AC, so it can get pretty hot in summer. Other than that I am super happy with Citypop.

An experience to forget

The experience was undoubtedly the most dreadful of my entire life. Accompanied by my elderly parents, aged over 65, we arrived at the property at approximately 5 pm. However, upon our arrival, our room was not available and we immediately contacted the property, as there was no one in the facility. After much trouble because the person who answered didn't speak English, we were informed that there had been an issue with a previous guest and that they were working to resolve it. In the meantime, we were directed to a room reeking unbearably of smoke, even the bathrooms carried the same odor. After enduring 2 hours and 30 minutes without any resolution, we decided to go for dinner in the hope that the situation would improve upon our return. By 9 pm, despite numerous assurances that the problem would be resolved, we were still without a room. Frustrated and exhausted, we made the difficult decision to leave the premises and find alternative accommodation. Although I requested a refund, it was denied by the booking platform, citing the property owner's insistence that a room was indeed available for us. In light of this unacceptable experience, I have sought legal counsel in Zurich to pursue legal action against the establishment. Alongside seeking compensation for the reservation, I intend to pursue damages for the distress caused by this ordeal.

Confussing system of the getting the keys, not nice destination.

wifi worked well and the room was clean.

(At least for me) very complicated system of picking up the keys (numbers, boxes, codes). No chance for parking around (yellow, blue zones). Only fast foods in the area, almost no restaurants.

Positives: larger than expected room, it was very clean as were the shared facilities and it was easy to access via the emailed instructions.

Had 2 rooms one of them smelt strongly of smoke and it was not an appropriate place to stay with a family.

Good property and helpful host.

The location is good as it is close to shops and many good restaurants. The apartment was spacious and we had 4 rooms. We only needed two but still good to have extra. We initially faced an issue, but the host was very helpful to resolve it.

There is no elevator in the property. Had to carry my luggage 3 floors. No free parking, but many public parkings next to building (had to pay).

An acceptable simple place to stay, if you get it for a favorable price, otherwise not super great in terms of aesthetic

The price I got was simply great for Switzerland. Otherwise the place was sure OK, but not great either. A small common kitchen was nice, there is no personnel on premises so check in is contactless.

Not very close to the center (15-25 min walk), but acceptable. It is a budget place, so the furniture is obviously simple, not very new and not very aesthetically pleasing, but functionally ok and clean, so no big issues here. There were major construction wors ongoing just in front of the window which were very noisy during the day. personally, it doesn’t bother me too much, because I was out during the day, but such a major issue should have been mentioned, either before the booking, or at least in the individual communication before check-in. You cannot simply omit such an important fact, that is simply NOT ok and speaks of the attitude of people running the place. I still grade the place quite high, but mostly based on the great price I got, rather then based on quality.

Very clean BUT no privacy

When we arrived the housekeeper welcomed us and was very polite. Everything was absolutely spotless clean! We were allowed to use the shared kitchen which was great. We were very happy.

BUT about halfway our 4-day stay the housekeeper turned out to be very pushy about the cleaning. We tried to keep everything as clean as possible and kept it very tidy. Still the housekeeper kept bothering us about our plans or when we were going to cook, when we just woke up or were trying to eat. And she's constantly watching what you do and judging it. If you like privacy skip this appartement and spend some money on a nice hotel with professional staff.
