This location is paramount. Seclusion, private sandy beach on Portage Lake, Lake Michigan beaches, private dock for your boat. This is a wonderful cottage secluded at the end of a wooded peninsula that separates Lake Michigan from Portage Lake. Build a campfire on either beach. From your cottage you can watch the sun rise looking 3 miles east across Portage Lake or turn to the west and watch the sun set over Lake Michigan. The main level of the home has the kitchen, dining room table, and living room. The living has a HD TV with cable service, and a gas fireplace. The home has a laundry room with washer & dryer. There is also cable internet with wi-fi. The master bedroom, is also on the main level, and has a king bed, full bath, HD TV, and a window a/c. Upstairs is 3 more bedrooms, two with queen beds, and the third with 3 twin beds. Upstairs also has another full bath and a futon in the hallway.
This location lends itself to all sorts of outdoor activities. Biking, walking, and jogging., boating, water skiing, fishing, jet skiing, and sailing. Canoeing and tubing local rivers. Fishing Portage Lake for all the fresh water game fish. Charter fishing available for Salmon and Trout on the big lake and world class local Trout and Salmon streams. There is kayak and paddleboard rentals, charter fishing guide, and sailboat charters just a block away at the Portage Point Inn & Marina. Take a day trip traveling up the coastline on M22, one of the most scenic drives in America, to the quaint villages along the route offering unique shopping opportunities. This is a great time to visit the many vineyards and wine chateaus, along with orchards and fruit stands. This is also a great time to visit and photograph several lighthouses. Championship golf courses are within a few minutes of your cottage, most notable are Arcadia Bluffs, The Heathlands, Manistee National, Bear Lake County Highlands, and Manistee Golf and Country Club. You can go horseback riding for all levels, adults and children, at the Rock 'n' R stables 20 minutes from the home. Your family might consider a lazy float down the Platte River with transportation and tubes provided by Riverside Rentals. Canoe and kayak rentals and trips are also available on many of the rivers in the area. Ask me for details. The village of Onekama, on the opposite side of Portage Lake from this cottage, has some wonderful shops and restaurants. The beautiful Little River Casino is ten miles away and provides gambling and entertainment.

We truly loved our stay at this cottage. The location is PERFECTION. Having access to the beach with the floating dock allowed us to dock our grandfathers historic boat overnight and it was perfect. The short walk to our favorite beach was just an extra bonus. We would recommend this stay to anyone and hope to stay here again in the future.

The property has access to both to Lake Michigan and to Portage Lake. The small beach on Portage is wonderful as it gets all day sun, has a lovely dock, and is the best sandy beach on Portage Lake. Sunsets over Lake Michigan are wonderful. The “outdoor” life at this property is fabulous. The house itself is very dated and has only one bathroom for the 3 bedrooms upstairs. Fine for a young family but harder for adults. I would encourage the owners to install an outdoor shower to relieve the pressure on showers. The kitchen is not particularly well appointed or stocked. Again, the owner could go through and do a good restocking of platters, canapé knives etc or at least warn guests to bring those types of things. Given the price point for the house, some funds could be re- invested to update the kitchen, or provide a gas-grill. The property manager is very helpful and responsive. On the whole, a great property and a good house.

As others have reviewed, property is dated. We did find things that need maintenance. Some of the windows didn't open. The pocket door into the kitchen was very hard to close. As we had a little one, we were trying to keep him out of the kitchen, so this was an ongoing challenge. My son sat in one of the plastic Adirondack chairs on the deck only to find one of the arms was broken and duct taped. It could be a great place if some investment was made by the owner (as others gave indicated). The location was very nice and the beach on Lake Michigan was just a short walk up the road.
Overall, considering the state of the home and the price we paid, doubt we would stay again. However, Jeff, who was our host, was wonderful and he gets a shout out.
