Old Byurakan Guest House

Nice location, good starting point for Aragac, Ara and other local tourist destinations. The rooms were good enough, clean, WiFi is good enough. The bigger apartment with two rooms + living room had two bathrooms which was helpful. The owner is a helpful and nice guy - there was very good contact on WhatsApp (early breakfast boxes, early check-in, etc.).

What we missed - the shower in one room did not have the cover, so the water was everywhere after each bath, breakfast was tasty but modest, for 5 days there were: scrambled eggs (2 times) / sausages (3 times), lavash, tomato&cucumber salad, slices of cheese, apricot/pear jam) plus tea or coffee (to be made by yourself), so almost the same every day.

A very peaceful location with views over the Amberd Gorge. Great base for hiking Mount Aragats. Martik was very friendly and helpful, and provided nice packed breakfast to help my early start!

This hotel was spot on and just what I needed. I booked it for the location and it turned out to be perfect. To get here you need to drive about 200 meters down a small unpaved road - it’s a bit bumpy but as long as you take it slow everything will be fine. There is space for 5-6 cars in the property and whilst it’s a bit tight for turning around it is possible. It’s located on the edge of a lookout across the mountains so the views are terrific. The owner showed me around, pointing out the shared kitchen and bedroom. He was pleasant, helpful and friendly. My room was clean and comfortable, it had a private shower room attached which was all good. The shared kitchen had a kettle, stove, microwave, and a fridge which I used to store my milk and yogurt for breakfast. The location is great if like me you’re planning to see some local sights. It’s a 20 minute drive to the ROT (Soviet Telescope), 35 minutes drive to Amberd Fortress, and about 60 minutes to Kari Lake - which is as far as you can drive up Mount Aragats.
