We stayed at April Lodge for a two-week period. First impressions were very good — it was clean and well presented. After a while though, you do start noticing things, for example alot of cobwebs and a smell. A nice touch was all the bedrooms had fans in, which during this heat wave was a good idea. I did bring ours with us, but this was a surprise. We had Flat 1, which was ideal for the five of us (2 adults, 3 children). Two of the three bedrooms had TVs, which was a nice touch, and there was a bigger TV in the living room. However, it had been mounted way too high on the wall — the bottom of the TV is 6ft from the floor, so you end up straining your neck looking up while watching it. Not sure why it was hung so high, but it's not very practical. On the second day, being a family, we decided to cook — tuna pasta. We got the ingredients and started cooking, only to discover there were just two pans and no sieve. So we ended up having to go and buy a cheap set of pans, baking tray and a sieve from Home Bargains — not something I expected to be doing on holiday. We also had to defrost the freezer, as it was 50% frozen, making it unusable. It's a half-size fridge freezer; which does the job but you can't store much in it, so you need to shop every few days. Overall, the rooms are a very good size and suited our needs well. It looks like they get a lot of pet owners, but in our rental you get a whiff of dog urine after sitting in the main lounge for an hour or so — There are a few air fresheners but they are either run out, or are no longer working. We ended up getting one for the main room, just so we could use the room. It really could do a with a good carpet clean. The internet is 80/20 provided by BT, and it's stable, reliable, and has decent coverage throughout the rental. Each room with a TV is signed into Netflix, with a profile lock to stop anyone messing with the account — a great idea, and one I haven't seen done before. Very...
The doorbells don't work, which has been a bit of a nuisance. There are two doorbell sets — an outside one and an inside one — This suggests to me that the property has had a couple of different owners/operators over time. The outside doorbell doesn't ring through (Flat 3's does), so when ordering takeaway you have to keep watch or hope they call you instead. Not sure why they don't work, as they appear to be hardwired, so there's no obvious reason they shouldn't but this should be looked into. The shower/bath – This was usable but the plug for the bath didn’t work. Its one of those plugs which you have a turner to open and close it, but it doesn’t work. We ended up just taking the plug out and putting it to one side and just having showers for the two weeks during our stay. The house is about a 15-minute walk from the beach — a lovely stroll down, and you can walk to the pier in about 30 minutes. Parking is reasonable at the house, but this does depend on who else is stopping. We only had one night were someone body had someone else over and we had to squeeze in. This cant be helped as it other people but it was a pain for that night.
