Lovely Arty Apartment in a beautiful old building

The apartment is situated in a very old mansion, which has an interesting history (would have liked to find our more :) The mansion, now divided into apartments, has a stunning courtyard and you enter the courtyard via a heavy old door with a secure key code. It's near a gorgeous square with a few restaurants, and leafy shade for al fresco dining. It felt very un-touristy, and yet you are within 5 minutes, or so, walk of the historic areas of Arles. Once through a second heavy entrance door, a stone staircase leads up to the apartment, which is on the first floor. The staircase is wide, so there's no problem getting suitcases up there. The apartment is roomy, with high ceilings. The living room has a small Juliette balcony that looks out over another courtyard and a garden (though you don't have access to the garden). Large pieces of art adorn the walls, and you're left in no doubt that the apartment has been done up by an artist. The bedroom is smallish, the bed is comfy, and there is an overhead fan in the bedroom - another standalone fan was supplied in the storage area. There is no air conditioning, which when we travelled mid May was not a problem. There were mosquitos around outside, and so we popped out to the pharmacy located in the nearby square to buy mosquito repellant so we could keep the windows open. We walked along the river to the apartment from the train station which took about 20 minutes.

The apartment is beautifully equipped, but sometimes we were not inclined to use things - ie the chopping board was made of lovely wood, and not something we felt comfortable chopping fruit or vegetables on, for instance! Some general mugs for tea and coffee would have been nice - the ones supplied are quite special and arty ;) The TV consists of an overhead projector, which we couldn't work out how to use.

Sehr schöne, künstlerisch gestaltete Wohnung in bester Altstadtlage

Die Wohnung ist außergewöhnlich gestaltet durch Kunstwerke, afrikanischen Masken und Figuren, Designermöbeln etc. Dadurch entsteht ein ganz besonderes Flair, was noch dadurch verstärkt wird, dass sie sich in einem alten Gebäude - einer Sehenswürdigkeit in der Stadt - befindet. Aber auch die praktische Ausstattung ist sehr gut. Sensationell ist die Lage in der Altstadt: Man befindet sich direkt an quirligen Plätzen mit Cafés, Bars und Restaurants. Wir wurden sehr gut betreut von Oscar, der uns nett einwies und für Hilfestellung immer erreichbar war.
