Lighting in room is bright, bed was a little soft, but I still slept well

The location and proximity to the beach. Spacious room that was very clean and comfortable.

We enjoyed our stay here. The hotel is well located just outside of downtown La Jolla, yet quiet. Recently renovated with thoughtful design choices. The room itself was calm, inviting, and roomy, with comfy beds and nice bathroom. We especially liked the balcony.

There is coffee in the lobby, but it would have been nice to have a coffee maker in the room. There was enough room for a chair in the room and it would have been nice to sit on something other than the bed. (All of this is minor)

The room is really nice and functional, recently renovated for sure.

No breakfast, but there are options near by and a Starbucks.

Room cleaning never came, and when I called and asked for more towels, they told me I would have to pick them up at the lobby.

At first I was a little Leary because no lobby but room very nice with outside balcony. Excellent fish tacos and coffee nearby

I liked how quiet the hotel was despite reading reviews about paper thin walls.I also liked how close it was to the beach and restaurants.

Comfortable enough bed, good shower, secure building, plenty of parking and the location was good for me. The WIFI worked well. Very friendly ,professional and helpful staff. I stayed three nights.

No breakfast, no coffee or microwave in the room. A little more street noise than I would have liked.

small stuff was annoying. no shower door that led to water all over the bathroom floor, no lamps or counter space, back door opened into the bed and the carbon monoxide detector was directly over the bed and flashed a blinding blue light all night long

Modern renovation, clean, great location!

No coffee maker in room & office with complimentary coffee not open until 0800. Additionally, only two bath towels for two people. Extra would be nice, especially for a woman.

I thought the location would have been more convenient and we all were wanting to stay in the same hotel. Unfortunately it wasn’t close to anything but residential area.

They were so absolutely unhelpful, rude, threatening, rigid, etc. check my profile - I rarely leave bad reviews so I mean this - DO NOT CHOOSE THIS MOTEL calling itself a hotel. My experience at Sands of La Jolla was stressful from the moment I tried to check in. When I arrived, I told them I’d like to check in but leave all my stuff in my car, because I wouldn’t be back until that evening. This was a family gathering. They told me it would cost extra to check in early, even when I didn’t need the room, just wanted to “pay at the property” so I’d be good to go before leaving for the rest of the day. They refused to let me unless I paid more to “pay at the property” then. So, I left with my family and spent the day away. Meanwhile, I was in contact with them three times throughout the day, first calling to see if I could get an extra bed (of course the answer was no). Then called to make sure they knew my car was parked there. Then calling around 7:30 pm to say I wouldn’t be back until close to 10:30 or 11 pm to check in. During dinner with my family, I received a text telling me they were giving my room away if they didn’t get paid by 9 pm. I didn’t see this message til 9:15 pm. Never before during the three calls prior or while I was there in person did they say they needed payment before I checked in. And remember they wouldn’t let me pay when I first arrived. By then, we were out at dinner, so I sent a photo of my credit card to complete the check-in. Even though the credit card info was already updated on booking.com. The staff at first refused to run the card and started sending me multiple threatening and confusing text messages, saying they were going to give away my room. They stated that the card on file with. Booking wasn’t working. I took the time to call my bank, and there was no hold on the card or even an attempt to charge the card. I replied to their text stating they can run the card I sent a photo of.

Location, Cleanliness, value, everything about the stay was just right. I was in town on business, may be my new 'go to' place for business trips.

Location was central to our plans with plenty of food and other conveniences close by. Room was clean, bed was comfortable. Parking (included) was a massive plus!

AC was a bit inconsistent, but we managed just fine.

Perfect location, close to beach, restaurants, coffee shops.

No real dislikes, walls are thin so you may hear your neighbors and people above you.

Immaculate, well maintained property

There’s a complicated system of doors to unlock for access to various things- the stairs or elevator, the pool, the ice machine. I’m not sure what that’s all about but it you are carrying stuff it’s a buisance

The location was amazing and the bed was really comfortable.

The smell was off. I couldn’t tell if it was weed smell or an older musty smell coming through the walls or vents. Free parking!!!! Staff was nice 😊 Parking was great, except if you come later. Then street parking was available

The property was close enough close enough to walk to the beach. The beds were comfortable and nicely cleaned. The front desk people were nice and helpful.

I didn’t like the pillows. I didn’t like that it was in front of the Main Street and you can hear cars driving by.

Our room was musty and damp. We tried running the air conditioner to help with the moisture but I’m not certain it worked. There was poorly cleaned vomit on the toilet and on a curtain. The place was super cheap compared to other hotels in the area so that’s the trade off, I guess.

Freshly remodeled, simple yet clean looking and functional. Good parking. Nice pool.

Great location in Bird Rock at good value. Clean and comfortable hotel.

The main inconvenience was not having a microwave in the room. Since they don’t have any breakfast or meals in the hotel and we have two small kids we were constantly running up the stairs to a single shared microwave to heat food and milk. Simply having a small microwave in the room would have enhanced our stay.

No coffee amenities inside the room, you have to inconveniently go lobby which opens at 8 am despite some smug arrogant guy being there before 8. He told me that if i want coffee before 8 that i have to go to Starbucks.
