Beautiful spot to escape to

Fantastic location in the middle of a Roman fort and the perfect "get away from it all" location. Ideal for exploring borders and making use of facilities at Kielder Water. Cottage very well appointed with lots of lovely touches, including a delicious hone baked cake on arrival. Enclosed, very beautiful garden ideal for dog. Thanks to the lovely neighbours for their hospitality too.

Wonderful relaxing retreat in a cosy and delightful cottage in a beautiful location.

Roman Cottage is in a beautiful and quiet location. The cottage is cosy, tasteful and really well equipped. The hosts were easily contactable to help with any queries and the surprise of a delicious cake on arrival was so welcome. We would love to go back there.

A fabulous stay in a tranquil location steeped in fascinating history literally on your doorstep.

Mary the host seemed to have thought of everything. The cottage is very well equipped with everything you could wish for including a log burner with a generous pile of logs. We were most grateful for the complimentary items provided, particularly the delicious home made cake which was very welcome on arrival.

Initially attracted by historical situation and surrounding landscape. Hugely impressed with landlady’s willingness to share knowledge of the area and provide us with a tray for tea and a very tasty cake upon arrival. The cottage and garden are lovely. Everything you need to hand. A super holiday.

A great stay in a lovely place

The location is beautiful, and the views were stunning. The host was extremely helpful in providing lots of useful information about the area. The property was warm and welcoming, and was very well-equipped. We were also able to take advantage of the dark skies there to enjoy looking at the night sky.

Liked the location and cottage perfect get away from every day life Mary the host was excellent and had thought of everything

Parking over the grass wasn't a major issue but could be if the weather was really bad

Exceptional

Everything. Really lovely cottage. Fire warm. Kitchen quirky and very up to date and has innovative features. Plus hidden drawers !. Lots of room. Fun place. Fantastic views. Soo quiet. Not far from Scottish border and Hadrians wall. Lots of info supplied. Maps and visitor info great. Everything lively and clean. Amazing cake was welcoming plus some emergency rations just in case. Lovely.

Not much. TV kept losing signal but not really an issue as we were out late evenings. Petrol stations quite a way out so we took advice and topped up.

The cottage was gorgeous and the little extras the hosts left were a great surprise. It was so peaceful and quiet - the perfect getaway!
