Lovely small cottage in the centre of Ambelside

The location of this property is ideal as it is right in the centre. Although the cottage is small, it is perfect for a short break. On arrival, the cottage felt clean and warm.

Before arriving, I was spammed with a lot of emails. The emails were repeated and often overbearing with information. Additionally, the information given about "how to get to the cottage" was complex and could've been a lot simpler, an image of a map would help. Due to the complexities of the instructions we decided to park before arriving at the cottage, we paid for a long stay carpark, annoyingly when we arrived at the cottage there was a parking permit for us to use. Therefore we paid for parking and we didn't need to! The cottage itself was lovely. However, we did feel it was missing the basics. For example, it would be nice to have more than 1 toilet roll.

Perfect for a solo traveller or even a couple.

The location is excellent, not only is it in the middle of town, it is also just of the road and has a nice little garden with a table and chairs. Perfect little rest spot between the days hike which can be reached in no time.

The key lock box was a bit stiff. Lock for the bathroom was a bit fiddly. There were crumbs in the fridge.

Lovely relaxing stay

It was lovely location. The cottage was very cosy. We couldn't understand why the other reviews that we so low. It is small but it well equipped, the never boiler made any noise, the bed was great (we did lots of walking so we slept very well but we think it was comfy). We didn't try to watch TV - it's not really a cottage for hanging out in (it's small) but why we hangout there in the Lake District! We cooked (the hobs worked - the back one is fast and front slow but I think that's the design). There were good instruction books. And we had lovely time.

We found the cottage a bit hard to find. Bad traffic meant to that we arrived at night and there isn't a sign for it on the road (it's hidden through a entrance way). Either put up a notice or tell the renter to go behind Graylings Cottage - that was a small panic but we foudn it. The side of shower could be cleaner (but we appreciate it's hard to reach there) - everything else was lovely and clean.

No breakfast - self-catering. Location was brilliant.

No parking space. When the town gets full (and it does), it can be difficult to find somewhere to park. And I found the oven/microwave complicated to work, but then I'm old!

Lovely wee break in a lovely wee cottage

Cute cottage very clean, lots of facilities tucked away, nice sun trap outside, parking permit available for use, bed very comfy and shower superb

For one person it was an expensive stay but that’s only because husband couldn’t come in the end. A drying area would have been good - I’m never sure how much water laminate flooring can take and one day I came in soaked ( ended up putting clothes in bin bag til I could deal with them better)

My own issue was the shower head, it very difficult to wash your hair without banging your head on the door. Maybe a smaller pipe would be useful.

Great small property in the heart of Ambleside.

Pleasantly surprised with a parking pass usable throughout the Southern Lakes.

If the shower is used too long there is a small leak onto the kitchen hob.

Entrance was through a joiners yard which was getting work done which we was not informed. The property was not cleaned properly ie dust lying everywhere,bathroom and bedroom floor had not been cleaned.

Cobblestone Cottage could be amazing but sadly the owner does not share that vision!

Starting with the positives Cobblestone Cottage could not be better situated in the village. It’s in the heart of Ambleside near all the amenities on offer. The potential of this cottage is huge! In these covid19 times we have been reluctant to give negative reviews to businesses because we understand how much they have struggled over the past 18 months, however in this case we cannot let some of the issues go without remark!

Directions offered to the cottage were poor trying to direct us up Compston St from Church St which is not allowed as it is a one-way street. The postcode offered led us to Compston Rd not Compston St. Information about parking was also poor implying you could share the "cobbled yard" to park which is not the case. The nearest car park is Rydal Car park which has a good number of spaces and you need to use the permit that is left in the Cottage. This is approx 10 minute walk from the cottage. The sofa sits in front of the only radiator and is possibly the most uncomfortable sofa ever! The mattress on the bed is also very very uncomfortable to the point we left a day early rather that endure another night! The standard of cleaning was very poor. We found used cotton buds in a bedside cabinet and cobwebs hanging from the bedroom light. The toilet is very dated making it difficult to clean due to mould and dust! The shower leaked down through the downstairs ceiling, through the electric light onto the hob, microwave and floor below. This meant we could not use the facilities in the kitchen. There was only one bath towel and one hand towel for each of us for 7 nights! There was no dustpan and brush to collect floor sweepings. The cleaning products supplied were of poor quality and inside the cleaning cupboards items were literally stuck to the units with dirt! I was cut by a splinter of glass in the bedroom carpet. There is no apparent option to recycle! At £396 for a week we took a chance and accept we had a sense that in comparison to other cottages, which in some cases were 3 times that price, we might not get what we might have hoped for. The old adage “you get what you pay for” may stand! However, for £396/ week you do expect to be able to use the facilities without fear of burning the place down or getting electrocuted and not to be practically crippled by a sofa and bed mattress!
