We've stayed in many places over the years - Neidpath Castle is definitely our favourite and easily the most memorable. Whilst it's easily the most expensive per night stay we've had, it is absolutely worth every penny (I booked a single night for the wife's 40th birthday). There are so few opportunities to stay in your own castle, entirely by yourself - and in such a spectacular location overlooking the river.
The lovely Katerina met us on arrival and provided a full tour, as well as returning to collect the keys upon checking-out, where we discussed the history and ongoing site renovations.
Absolutely every room is available to explore at your leisure - visit the old prison in the middle of the night - if you dare.... or go up onto the roof during a clear night to see the starry sky - the large floodlights uplighting the castle switch off automatically late night.
The produce provided for breakfast was very nice, as was the coffee machine, biscuits, tea, milk and orange juice - all hidden behind a 'secret' door.
The large bath, four-poster bed and huge log fireplace were great, as was the Bluetooth Marshall speaker to add ambience.
The castle features lots of history, from the many tapestries and dressed manikins, to the display cabinets on the very top floor showing various items discovered around the grounds - which is also where you'll find the doors to access the rooftop walkways for spectacular views.
Be sure to visit the village of Peebles down the road - Cocoa Black (for amazing chocolate desserts) and Asado Gaucho (Argentinian Steakhouse serving excellent food) - note that there is the option for dining in the castle if you wish.
We hope to return someday.

I loved all the history. I enjoyed reading about the grounds and what to look for. The quick tour when we arrived was necessary.
We had a dinner scheduled, but they never showed up! We didn’t get to eat dinner.

Exceeded all expectations! Perfect first night stay for our honeymoon. Everyone was so friendly and kind. Lived like a lord and lady for the night
It was quite cold - however to be expected staying in a castle. Oil heaters were provided!

This place went above and beyond. Kitchenette was unexpected and fully stocked for our use. The property is an absolute dream!!
I wouldnt change a thing. It was our favorite night of our two week stay in Scotland.

The place can be easily reached by car or a short walk from Peebles city centre. Katarina met us at the front door at the convened time to hand over the keys, and she explained how to explore the castle and switch lights at different times of the day. You get the WHOLE castle to yourself, so it is a good idea to take time to explore all the rooms and vintage details, as it is a massive place full of history. When we got there, the suite was warm already, and the bed was extremely comfortable. We also had dinner brought to us and dined in the adjacent room, which made for a lovely way to end what was already a delightful day! We will definitely return to explore the castle and its surroundings some more!
This place is fantastic. Nothing not to like!

Great location as you can get a bus from Edinburgh’s St Andrew’s Square to Peebles (1hour20), and it is walkable from Peebles centre (20 minutes or less from the bus stop) and therefore accessible without a car. Plenty of taxis for around £5/£6 if you don’t want to walk.Peebles itself is a scenic tourist town with a decent selection of nice shops, pubs, eateries.
We enjoyed the breakfast that was left (good fresh bread, pastries, smoked salmon, avocado, fruit, yogurt, teas/coffees) and the nice selection of extra goodies and treats (chocolate, biscuits, nuts etc).Varied and good quality. Small kitchenette (kettle, toaster, coffee maker) in the room to prepare breakfast, but also having use of the main catering kitchen on the lower floor was great so there was an option to cook if you wanted, and I appreciated having use of the microwave there (I do like to have my porridge, even on holiday!). Loved the open fire, much needed on a very cold January night as castles are chilly, and we were left plentiful wood.
Nice toiletries in the bathroom and nice having robes. Very comfy bed with warm bedding.
House keeper, Katarina was friendly and welcoming on our arrival, tour and departure.
Fabulous views from roof terrace.
Would have liked to have more than just a heavy curtain between the bathroom and bed...we were friends sharing, not a couple! Even a couple may not enjoy having to use the toilet without a proper wall or door to partition it off. However, there was a separate toilet on a lower floor so an alternative option, though not ideal having to walk down flights of stairs to reach it.
The chamber was quite chilly on arrival...the portable heaters were on but perhaps should have been put on a,little earlier to have the room warmer at the start. Just would have made it more welcoming after a long, cold bus trip.
Found the multitude of light switches a bit confusing! Though we did work it out and managed to switch everything off before bed. Also, the castle has many doors in each room and it was confusing without any signage....kept opening random closets!

This is not just overnight accommodation. This is an Experience with a capital E that you'll be recalling - and describing to friends - for years to come. Lulu's guided tour and potted history are not to be missed - highly entertaining and a useful introduction to any ghosts you may encounter. And then the entire castle is yours. Explore. Take cocktails on the battlements. Get slightly lost. Study the fascinating museum display cases. Feel baronial in front of a roaring log fire. Snore aristocratically in a comfy four-poster. Slightly unsettling: the bathroom is a curtained alcove off the huge bedroom. But no matter, because it's a loo with a breathtaking view. Top tip: ask for Chris and Dougie to come in, cook you a superb dinner and bring it to your (candlelit, of course) table. Their day job is running Tweed Valley Venison, and game is very much their game. Like the castle itself, not cheap but well worth it. Other essential tip: stay for more than one night, because there's wonderful walking country right outside the door, and after a good day's hiking nothing beats coming home to your very own castle.

Loved our stay at Queen Mary’s Chamber within the amazing Neidpath Castle. Bedroom and lounge area are beautifully furnished. Fridge was full of goodies for breakfast. Was great to have a whole castle to ourselves and thoroughly enjoyed exploring. Was wonderful.

Great facilities and a very unique and enjoyable stay. A lot of food was available as part of the stay.
Just keep in mind that this is a stone castle and so will be cold in certain rooms, so bring a blanket and wrap when outwith the living chamber.
