The room was plenty big with the basic necessities. The location near the S-Bahn and several bus lines was convenient.
Good blackout curtains; not too loud WHEN window was closed.
Breakfast was excellent in some respects but quite problematic in others (see below!).
Bottle of water left for guest was a nice touch.
The room I had was painted a very dark shade of gray (unlike in the photos here, where the walls are light) and it generally felt very dark. It smelled somewhat unpleasant when I arrived. I paid extra for an apartment with air conditioning but was informed before I arrived that the A/C was not working and they had placed a fan in my room. Luckily it was not very hot and this was not an issue.
The breakfast is not in the building but actually a 7-10 minute walk away at a local cafe. The breakfast itself is very nice; not a buffet, but several options to choose from. The latte was one of the best coffees I have ever had! Truly magnificent. BUT they only open at 8:00 during the week and 10 on the weekends, and there was no way to know this when I booked breakfast for all three days of my stay. I noticed on Friday when I checked in. I was leaving for a bus tour on Sunday at 9 am and had no way to get my breakfast, but I was told via Whatsapp that there was no way I could cancel my order for Sunday even though it was Friday evening when I sent the inquiry. There was no response to my follow up message via Whatsapp. The waitress at the cafe was very accommodating however, and when I told her on Saturday about my issue, she allowed me to select something else from the menu as a to-go order to compensate for the fact that I wouldn't be there on Sunday. Just generally speaking, I find 10 am very late for breakfast if you want to make the most of your time in Hamburg. Plus the added time of having to walk back and forth from the hotel and the cafe.
