Shanghai Downtown Hills Boutique Guesthouse - Near Metro Line 7, Exit 3, Changping Road

It's a beautiful house with all the necessary facilities. The communication with staff was great, they handled all the questions in a timely manner. It was very easy to get to the house and find it, the instructions were clear. There is access to the internet.

The window in the room on the first floor was a bit small so there wasn't much light. Other than that it was great.

The location is very convenient, within walking distance of Chang Ping Metro Station (5 minutes) and Jing’an Temple Metro Station (12 minutes). Along the way to the metro stations, there are several cafes, restaurants, fruit stores, and FamilyMart outlets. This villa is historic and located in an alley. At night, the alley is rather dark. Although there are some street lamps, the lighting is still quite dim. Nevertheless, for those who want to experience how local people live, this is still a good choice. The villa has several rooms, along with a shared kitchen and dining area. My family and I stayed in the Yunnan room, which was clean and well maintained. There is also a balcony overlooking a large garden. A cat lives on the balcony. I am not sure whether anyone feeds the cat when there are no guests staying in the Yunnan room. My daughter is a cat lover, so we hope the owner can provide the cat with a small sheltered bed as well. Overall, we had a pleasant stay in this old villa.

The blinds in the master bedroom were a little difficult to adjust. We tried several times before finally managing to pull them down to block the morning sunlight. The sponge in the kitchen was somewhat dirty (see photo). I am not sure how frequently the owner replaces it.

The house manager was very available and helpful - but only via WhatsApp, never onsite in the week we were there.

The difference between the staged photos and reality was pretty dramatic. The facility itself just needs some TLC. Lots of mold in the bathroom caulking, plumbing that didn’t work right (bathtub didn’t work at all and shower was either scalding hot or cold - no in between). Location was also incredibly difficult to find at night. Photos to orient you to the alleyway are outdated and therefore not helpful for indicating landmarks to look for.
