I’m Black, and this was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had. The owner was extremely aggressive and racist, and I was kicked out of hotel because of my race. I was told I was “dirty” and “smelly,” then forced to leave the hotel with no refund. On top of that, they demanded I pay 100 pounds for the bedsheets because of the alleged smell. This felt discriminatory and humiliating. I do not recommend staying here. the toilet is never cleaned and shxt floating all the time

Location
Centralised heating system was placed and heater was not appropriate in the 2nd floor, it was winter times and pretty cold.

The hostel was in prime location. easy accessible and cozy.
The quality of bunk bed cots could have been better .

Price and position
Facilities: the showers work with the button so the water flow tends to end in a few seconds. A couple of times happened to not have warm water. There are no lockers in the rooms.
5.0 / 10.0
Cheap to an extent that, despite limitations, it was good value for money. Kitchen was well equipped and supplied. Decent showers.
Drying room, in a hostel, in Scotland, not meant for wet clothes! Not the hostels fault, but why do so many of the people using this kind of accommodation, (and I have used independent hostels from Canada to New Zealand), insist on living like vampires, blacking out rooms and spending 12+ hours in bed - itinerant workers ?

It is just a hostel, so I had no high expectations. It was clean, in good location.
Price is too high.

Location
The rabbit warren hallways, the loud corridors, the unsmiling, unhelpful man on reception. The bathroom lights going off suddenly and randomly leaving you in the shower in the dark.
The tiny old bath towel I had to pay 2 pounds to hire.
Is that enough?

Location
Little bit noisy being under the kitchen area. Mattresses are plastic coated which made for a very hot night.
3.0 / 10.0
Very run-down, extremely hard and uncomfortable beds, push button showers that only go for 3 seconds, open bins in the unisex bathrooms (bad idea), can hear everything due to rooms being under kitchen/dining area, pervasive smell of raw fish since the managers’ sideline business (?) fills the guest fridge. Both most expensive and the worst accommodation we stayed in on our trip.

Location was excellent right at the centre
I requested four beds in a a single room with no sharing and my request was approved also by Portree on an email dated April 18, 2025. I was not able to show this extract and was provided 4 beds in 12 bed dormitory.
Attaching an extract of the mail.

Central location
Bad smell from poorly ventilated kitchen that went through whole property. Pillow was flat , duvet cover very old with Christmas theme on it. Buckets in kitchen not emptied in daily basis , tea towels not clean every day . Shower room dirty , water from taps a trickle , place needs deep clean .

The location is excellent. The staff was friendly and they have laundry facilities.
The pillows and bedding were poor. Cooking in the kitchen ends at 6pm which is inconvenient for a dinner meal after a long day on Skye. They hold your bags but they are in a common entrance with no surveillance at times.

The friendly staff.
The price.
The large, Well equipped kitchen.
Comfy beds.
You can leave your bags after checkout at no additional cost.
There are too few showers for the number of guests. Only three.
People can walk off the street and pay £5 cash for a shower when there is a limited supply for paying guests.
The kitchen doesn't open until 6 am.

The location was spot on. Kitchen was really big plenty seats and facilities. Bathrooms were clean.

Friendly and helpful staff. Spacious kitchen with good cleanness. Great value for money. Easy access. Great location with plenty of parking spaces nearby.
Mould in the bathroom is a bit concerning. Visible dust at the ladder. But no complaints because overall it’s still quite clean and a good place for the price.

Location is great. The kitchen is big and well stocked. The room was warm and comfortable enough as hostels go.
The dorm I was in only had two sets of outlets, none near the beds. Not enough room or coat hooks near the beds for such a wet climate.

Very cute place, good location, a lot of potential. Sadly it would need a bit of fixing and improvements here and there and definitely a deep clean. There was hair on the sheets, spiderwebs and dust on every corner.

Affordable, great location, friendly staff, the kitchen facility is really helpful and amazing.
There is no security or privacy in this hostel. You’d expect to throw your luggage at the middle of the room with 12 beds and people in it. The bathroom is shared and well maintained but somewhere still not fully clean.

The staff were very nice people, pleasant & helpful. The place was quiet & in good location. The kitchen is big. You can check in until fairly late which is helpful for many travellers.
The beddings at at least one of the beds of our room had not been changed (they looked used & there were hair on the pillowcase etc), but when we mentioned it to the staff, they were very apologetic & changed the beddings at all our beds straight away.

the location was unbeatable
I have stayed in over 60 hostels, and worked in hostels for over a year. This hostel easily is in the bottom 3 I have ever had the experience of staying at. To put it plainly, this hostel lives up to the reputation hostels had decades ago, scaring our parents from ever staying in one.
the bathrooms had mould, walls had peeling paint, the bedding was appalling and filthy. we had to peel off some debris and hair from our single sheet. The fact that they make you take your own bedsheets and pillow off before you leave, and kick you out of your room from 10-3 everyday even if you stay multiple nights is ridiculous. I have run cleaning programs at hostels- this is NOT NORMAL. you can clean a room properly with people still allowed to be in occupied beds.
the atmosphere left everything to be desired, no sense of community, no socialising, no help whatsoever from the hostel to give advice on the surrounding area. Honestly, I would never recommend anyone stay here again. I camped the night before in a tent in the rain and had a better stay. the fact we paid so much money for a stay here, will haunt me.

Massive big kitchen / dining area. Great to relax before going to bed.
All good.

Staffs are super nice and helpful. They are a small business running by only two people.
When the temperature dropped suddenly, the staffs gave me one more duvet and turn up the heater immediately.
We also had a good dinner chat which makes my solo trip to Skye less lonely~

The host is really nice, and the space of the kitchen is enough.
if can add more sockets in the room would be better!
