This was our fourth time staying at Heron Lodge and once again it delivered, the lodge has been refurbished since we last stayed 2 years ago and has improved the experience. The location is first class and the lodge itself is spotless and very comfortable If I was being ultra picky, the water pressure hot and cold is very poor (I don’t remember this being a problem on previous visits), drainage on the shower is poor and the curtains in the bedroom could do with a blackout blind or lining but this is a personal preference as I’m a light sleeper! Despite these minor inconveniences I will definitely be returning in the not too distant future. We have stayed at 4 different Aucheneglish lodges, Heron, Smiddy, Pier cottage and Lomond castle and this is the one we keep coming back to, that says all you should need to know.

This place is a hidden gem. It is so lovely to wake up right next to the loch. You can walk to Duck Bay Restaurant and Bar from here (15mins) or Cameron House hotel - which has more bars and restaurants (20 minute walk). The walk into the small local town takes 30-40 minutes depending upon your destination. The lodge has everything you need for a relaxing two person trip. Would recommend it to anyone who wants to get away from it all and enjoy nature - there are lots of lovely walks in the local area and many lovely areas and small towns to visit by car. Also it is 30 mins from Glasgow airport, so not far to travel. I shouldn't say too much more or it will be fully booked next time we try to visit!

What an amazing property! Obviously, the views are incredible and the photographs in the listing, as good as they are, really don’t do it justice. The property is well distanced from other properties and feels private and well equipped for cooking at home. There are plenty of places to visit nearby but after touring all of both the east and west coast the best view is probably from the Heron cottage. After thinking long and hard about how to make this place even better, the only thing is to have a sieve for draining rice but that’s it... Perfection.

We go here once or twice a year. As usual, it did not disappoint, although we both thought that the pressure in the shower was not as good as previous visits and the now doorless wardrobe is a bit strange. The mattress might also be due to be replaced. The new carpet was lovely, very luxurious underfoot, although we did miss the tartan! However, the main event is that deck! Could sit on that deck forever. It's the location right on the water that makes the place so special. Going back later in the year.

We have stayed here numerous times, and absolutely love the location, the facilities , and how clean the property is. However, we feel that the luxury description no longer applies, bed very soft and uncomfortable, tub chairs in living area, very hard and worn , so unable to relax looking out on the beautiful view. Would benefit from an upgrade to more suitable, comfy seating, so we could sit there all day .

Amazing location, right on edge of the loch. Very clean and comfortable. Only problem was that the mattress was way too soft for us. The lodge staff did their best to remedy this for us. Overall a lovely lodge, in an a beautiful location. Wouldn’t hesitate to go back, if the bed had a firmer mattress.

We were fortunate to have the most fantastic weekend with lovely sunshine the lodge is beautiful couldn't get any closer to the loch in fact you could imagine you were actually on a boat sitting looking out they had everything you could want in the lodge and the bed was so comfortable found it awkward trying to retrieve the key from the key box as the numbers had faded and there is a fair walk to the lodge from where you park your car ok if your active but my husband found it a struggle I'm not sure if the road into the estate belongs to the lodges if so they need to address the potholes in the road it really needs dealt with .

This lodge sits right on Loch Lomond - open your window and you can almost touch the water! The sound of the calm loch at night is amazing. Our stay was 1st class, we met Jim the owner on our first night and he was a proper gentleman bringing my partner a bottle of red the next day. Our time at the lodge looking out on the the mountains and Loch was so peaceful and tranquil. We even stayed at the lodge a couple of nights as it was so comphy and warm. I cannot rate this place high enough. Thanks to Jim and all the staff for making our staff fantastic and we will 100% be back again.

Heron Lodge exceeded our expectations. We had booked the lodge for the location and were not disappointed. I've had a long term illness for over a year now and needed some time away after my 50th birthday to relax and just breath. Heron Lodge allowed me to just be still, enjoy the views from the decking area or the balcony while listening to the water on the loch. Each day was different weather wise but we always sat outside, even if we had to wrap up. The staff were friendly and on the ball. I didn't want to leave and will certainly be booking again while looking at the other properties available. The lodge had everything we required and even when there was a day that l couldn't leave my bed my husband opened the french windows leading from the bedroom and l could see and hear everything that was happening on the loch. Heron Lodge was just wonderful and everything in the lodge was great quality. Thank you to everyone who made our holiday just perfect.

Loved revisiting the heron lodge. Loved it before but the new decor and layout was a nice surprise. The new deck hanging over the waters edge was the focal point for us, so beautiful to sit out and enjoy the peace and stunning views.

We love this lodge! We’ve stayed many times now and could never get tired of the view. The only slight negative is that there were building materials the far side of the neighbouring Creinch lodge and there was very noisy work going on as we were checking out. I hope that work doesn’t continue while the lodges are occupied and the end result doesn’t compromise the peace and privacy of the existing lodges.

The lodge was welcoming and warm as we arrived and spotlessly clean. It was a perfect retreat for the 2 of us and the balcony was great to stand out on ( little chilly for meals outside in January!) and watch over the loch. Well lit path for the evenings. We would definitely recommend Heron Lodge!

Despite having to rebook a couple of times due to Covid restrictions I was thankfully able to finally come on my trip earlier this month. I loved the stay, the place is beautiful and has absolutely everything you need. The welcome package is brilliant and saves you having to bring loads of things with you. Customer service was excellent and when there were issues like wifi codes not working, help was only a phone call away. There are only a few wee things I could suggest and they really are small things! As a non-driver (I live in the city and mainly cycle/walk) I felt there wasn't a lot of information on the Auchenheglish site itself about how to travel if you don't drive. It was automatically assumed that we had a car with us when I spoke to staff, and actually it was very easy to get around by walking/getting a taxi from Balloch station, but I figured that all out myself. It would be beneficial to give potential visitors an easy understanding of accessing this gorgeous lodge without a car. The other thing is that we walked to nearby Duck Bay restaurant (and saw other lodge residents doing so) and it was pitch black along the lane. Perhaps Duck Bay and Auchenheglish could look into putting solar lights along the path just to guide people as it was very tricky to see and there are parts of wall which open up to the loch. At night somebody could fall. I feel a person staying alone wouldn't be likely to attempt this dark path at night, but it would be good for both locations if there was some kind of basic lighting along the pathway.

We have stayed at several of the properties here and this was our second time at Heron. It has been really nicely refurbished. We had some issues with the internet but I understand this was being sorted. We had a fabulous time - so peaceful. It is my go to spot when healing is needed! So good for the soul. Liz and team go above and beyond what is required. The lodge is modern and very comfortable and has an enviable position right on the Loch. Our only slight disappointment was there was no coffee machine. We love our coffee and the other lodges we have been in had one. Apart from those very slight issues, we loved it.

Absolutely love this place. We have stayed here numerous times before and at other properties too and never ever tire of the fantastic views over the beautiful Loch Lomond. Heron Lodge has been refurbished since our last visit and we were really impressed with the work that has been done. Would love a little hot tub out on the decking though , it would make it perfect.
