Close walk to all amenities
Living room was freezing with draft from door and windows. You could smell people smoking outside in the house. Gap under the door is massive. Water in upstairs taps is dangerously hot, I burnt myself a number of times and there are no hot water warnings. Bedside tables had food wrappers and broken mirrors in them - very dangerous! Stairs had not been hoovered. Cleaning materials just shoved near gap under stairs looks awful. Sofas in living room were tiny and very uncomfortable. Bed were rock hard.

Location is the best thing about this cottage.
Kitchen is well Equipped and the bedrooms are nice .WiFi was good .
It’s very cold . The heating isn’t sufficient for the cottage .
There is a fire with no instructions on how to use or light .
There was food debris on the stairs carpets and black paint . The front door needs a draft exclusion on the bottom as there is a big gap .
The place just needs a bit of TLC to get the scores up . Lots of noise from people walking down the alley way . And noise from the pubs .

Location fabulous

We were booked on a trip from the harbour so the location was ideal.
The cottage is in an alley between two pubs and the alley is used as a toilet. Children played knock and run until the early hours. There was a large number of flies in the kitchen which was off putting

The beds were comfy, that's it!
This place is a health hazard. Dirty, unsafe, filthy. As soon as we walked in you were met by a load of clutter stuffed under the stairs. The floors were filthy, obviously hadn't been hoovered since the last guests left, at least! Oven, grill, pans, microwave disgusting and were not safe to use. Couldn't make a cup of tea because the kettle was brown inside. Sofas were that dilapidated the wooden arms stuck out of the material, causing multiple cracked elbows!!! Glasses had to be washed before use. Didn't even use the crockery or the utensils because they were stained and still dirty with leftover food still attached. The parking was a no go, so this cost an additional £12 per night, and added to the fact we couldn't use the kitchen to prepare any food or drink so we had to eat out, even if we just wanted a cuppa, this added more expense to our trip that we had not considered. There's mould in one bathroom, left over toiletries in the shower from previous guests, broken accessories, stained carpets, oh and a paper wrapper in a bedroom that contained what I can only imagine is a previous guests bodily fluid!!
Bannisters with ground in dirt, bedroom furniture either broken, stained, damaged or covered in food splatters.
A log burner which looks like an accident waiting to happen!!! Two bags of again previous guests bathroom rubbish just thrown and dumped in the under stairs. Hoover was left switched on and plugged in. All in all an absolute nightmare. Dangerous, dirty, dilapidated and a definite waste of money!!!! Do yourselves a favour and book somewhere else!

The property was lovely, quirky, cosy, clean & comfortable. Its in a BRILLIANT location, centre of Whitby. We had all we needed, plenty of cutlery & crockery. I was really impressed with the amount of plug sockets in our (top floor) bedroom. I was also impressed with the bed, so comfy, slept great!! The only thing none of us could quite work out was the kitchen sink tap, from a hot water point of view. There were buttons on the top of the tap, to increase/decrease the temperature, but it only seemed to run warm.
There wasn’t anything we didn’t like, although, after reading some of the previous reviews, i can understand why some people may have reacted negatively. Some of the bedroom furniture (top floor) was a bit scuffed & tired looking, but still perfectly serviceable. There were a couple of minor stains on the top floor bedroom carpet, apart from that, the carpet looked relatively new & clean. There were some scuff marks on the staircase wall, which to be fair is unavoidable given the narrow, steep staircase. The front door & inner door were a bit stiff on opening & closing, but it was never a major issue, just took a little “robust” pushing/pulling.

Really good location, easy to find and comfortable
Stained drawers/vanity in rooms, covered in marks. Furniture could do with replacing and hard to unpack cases from car and unload to cottage but I know this is due to location

The cottage was lovely and exactly what I expected for the price. The beds are comfy and the whole cottage was clean. It was perfect for myself, partner and in-laws. Parking display was provided too and it was a short walk from the cottage to our car.
Nothing really 8/10 overall in my opinion. I think however if you are planning on spending more time inside the cottage then things such as the couches being a little bit hard and the lack of door to hide the broom cupboard may be off putting.

Very well located, clean, light and bright, well kept and stocked.
Just the tiniest thing, that I appreciate the accommodation is tiny and no cupboard space but the hoover and cleaning things are under the stairs which are open and it’s the first thing you see as you go in, but apart from that it’s perfect and as I say it’s a tiny little thing

This property is disgusting for cleanliness. Not vacummed, a dirty cloth was used to wipe the hob, tap and worktops. My wife placed clothes on the coat hagers then when taken off to wear they were full of white dust!!!!! Absolutely never again.
We went home a day early it was a disappointing stay....never again!!!!!
We contacted Host and Stay at 4.55pm our first night but no reply, they eventually returned our call at 8.22pm asking if they could send a cleaner which we refused as we go to bed at 9pm, if they would even arrive the same night.
Absolutely never going to use Host & Stay ever again.
The insurance they charge is a con, bedroom carpet was burnt by an iron previously and hasn't been renewed.

Great location, nice cottage but needs some tlc
The mattresses where absolutely shocking need replacing ASAP, the shower heads where mouldy especially the top floor one, my son refused to shower in it, it was clean ish but found the kitchen cupboards with stains down them, crumbs on the work tops which I cleaned, and dust on light fittings, lamps etc, also looks like renovation work is been carried out with half jobs finished and not cleaned after, white plaster on first set of stairs all the way up, also the cleaning stuff, vac etc just chucked under the stairs in full view, Could do with a curtain or something. It's a beauitful place and I'm sure once all is corrected it will be a lovely cottage.

The location to all the things to do in Whitby was great and central
We’re do I start ,the entrance upon arrival there was a big pile of pigeon mess before you even enter the cottage and also fag ends and rubbish ,upon entering there we’re at least 4 bolts on the front door but only one worked ,the baseboard Infront of the fridge was missing ,a cleaning cupboard under the stairs was in full view ,the log burner (no logs supplied ) had not been cleaned out ,the door of burner didn’t close properly and no poker or brush etc ,upon going to get cutlery for meal we found only enough knife and folks for three guest when there were four of us ,paint all coming off on stairs like it had been mouldy ,stair carpet needed cleaning ,dirty marks on side tables and dressing tables also mould in showers , a lot of these points had been made over a year ago but had still not been sorted by host and stay ,and as you can expect we will not be staying in a host and stay cottage again ,and defiantly not this one

Lovely cozy little house, great location. Perfect base for a family stay and much more enjoyable than a hotel.
A couple of fixtures and fittings like the shower doors could do with updating but these are very small details

The location was convenient and it looked nice on the pictures.
The 25 quid damage deposit, honestly the place is ready for a refurb and nothing like the pictures, once we actually found the cottage as the directions were awful.we discovered not only is it nothing like the pictures but it's right next to a night club that plays music until 2am.. ,it certainly wasn't clean with cobwebs in multiple places ,mould in both showers, and very dusty. We also found a dummy just under the bed when we dropped something and it rolled under there, aswell as a tablet of the medicinal variety..not ideal if you go with dogs or children. The beds were awful almost like they were made out of old slinky's,as previous reviews have stated,as were the sofas.the walls downstairs have had mould wiped off near the stairs but you can still see the spores coming through, downstairs under the stairs is exposed and full of boxes and cleaning products,I'm not sure why as they clearly weren't used. There is also a second door downstairs which would have helped to keep the noise out but it is currently hanging off its hinges and can't be shut, the main entrance door the top left panel has been kicked in and repaired very badly, certainly wouldn't regard the property as secure. The plinth near the fridge needs re fitting ,the floor downstairs was sticky, the TV unit is peeling, the middle bedroom carpet was stained as is the stairs carpet. Also the majority of the internal doors that are on their hinges are difficult to shut,if possible at all.. the middle bathroom cabinet had toothpaste stains from the previous guests where they had stood electric toothbrushes up,and the upstairs toilet the handle spins all the way around before it flushes. The windows were also mouldy throughout. The stairs also are nowhere near what I would regard as pet friendly, never mind friendly towards children or the elderly.there honestly is probably more but this is just off the top of my head.

Situated near the harbour, very convenient for the town, comfortable bedrooms, nice bathroom facilities.
Heating system took a long time to get going, not really powerful enough for February. There was a log burner - but no logs! TV setup was unusual, we weren't used to a Sky box.

Lovely little cottage, great location.
Living room door didn't close properly so when you were sitting in living room it was very very cold. Only other issue we had was the stairs, quite narrow and steep, I know nothing can be done about them but worth mentioning in case you have mobility problems.

Good central location and quiet. Warm in winter. Sky TV not Freeview. Modern bathroom showers etc.. Booking agent (Host & Stay) gave very good information.
Wi-fi poor ( 300kbps when tested). Stove would not close properly. Strange collection of cutlery, OK if you only use spoons! Furniture rather old.

Very central, cosy cottage. Bedroom was spacious.
No parking anywhere near property. Blind in living room fell down not long after getting there - although it had looked like it had fallen down many times before as the paint was chipped around the window. Odd bits of paint/plaster missing around the place. Crumbs on the sofas downstairs. Downstairs was very cold even with heater on full blast. Shower had no pressure at all. Internet also didn’t work, we were connected but it had zero signal.

The location was great, very central. The property has a lot of potential but was not in good repair or as clean as it might be. There was an additional charge for property insurance from the letting company which wasn’t mentioned , expected to welcome.
The furniture could be in better repair. He showerhead in the bathroom was dirty. Opened sachets of body wash were left in the shower, not sure how this complies with Covid or hygiene policies. The mattresses were worn out. Additional, unexpected charge from letting company.
