The Cottage, Grotton Hall, Lydgate, Saddleworth

The cottage was very comfortable, quiet and we were very well provided for.

Lovely location and really well kitted out wirh thought and care.

Beds very soft....for me.

The location was excellent with super views over Manchester: we split our time between city days in M/cr and walking in the fabulous hills all around. There was ample parking space within the gated location. We all loved the log fire in the evenings. The bathroom was a modern (welcome) surprise in such a charming period cottage and the kitchen had everything we needed for our stay. We enjoyed the family stay but I will return for a cosy, romantic getaway later in the year. The hosts we welcoming, available but totally unobtrusive. They provided a good

Bit nit-picky but a couple of additional kitchen items for folks cooking in the cottage would be handy (e.g. large mixing bowl for our pancake mix). To be fair, I had taken a few items just in case and there were so many great places to go and eat close by (esp. The Old Original pub nearby, the Limekiln cafe in Dobcross, the Little Lock in Marsden and Albion Farm shop/cafe about a mile away) that eating out became a highlight for us all.

Great location close to Saddleworth villages and beyond nice touch from owner providing milk and essentials and cut logs to light open fire in lounge

Very cold and draughty for us due to boiler malfunction - think radiators also need upgrading - steep narrow staircase without continuous handrail made access to first floor difficult for seniors and restricted the usable floor space of kitchen. Double bedroom is extremely small and only accessible walking through the bathroom. Bathroom basin is only a hand rinse size - too small for washing. Curtains excessively long and too narrow for windows
